RR Skin Checker v1.0.3

Version 1.0.3 Now released.
---------------------------

Added check for missing .swf files.
Added check for redundant jpg,png and swf's
Added ini file with some of the RoadrRunner default commands against the .skin file they will call. ie AUDIO --> audio_player.skin

It will now list and jpgs, pngs or swfs that are in your skin folder but do not appear to be referenced in any .skin file. Note before just deleteing these files, do double check to make sure they aren't required. an example might be freefone.swf, as it is not referenced in the .skin fiels but freefone.exe uses it.

Version 1.0.1 Beta now released.
--------------------------------

This now also checks the .skin references in your .skin files. It does NOT as of yet check the default RoadRunner ones or those set up in ExecTbl.ini

Fellow skinners,

It may be just me, but occaisionally I find that in the development and changing of my skins I sometimes forget to update the graphic (as well as other) file references in the .skin files.

and

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...1&postcount=18

and

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...7&postcount=82

and

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...&postcount=381

Sorry JohnWPB for the last one.

so I have quick put together a little skin check program to check for that.

This is just a Beta at the moment, I've checked it on a few of my skins and *cough have had to do a bit of editing.

At the moment it just checks for missing graphic files (ie the empty, off,on, down ones), however I hope to expand it to also check for .skin links within the .skin files.

If you would like to test it on your skins you are more than welcome, if it is useful then let me know, if not also let me know.

Also if there is anything you think can be added, also let me know.

Basically what I am saying is "I want feedback!".

Just download the file, unzip and read the readme.txt. (oh and the licence file )

Don't worry, it does NOT make any changes to any of your .skin files

E.

Original SkinChecker 897 downloads. wow!

Good idea on this, would like to see it expanded.

Tried it. seems to work just fine. I ran it on my development skin based on a modified Blue Devil

your application looks inside the .skin file if all called files are exist in the path, right ?

as i start a project, i copy a lot of .swf, and other stuff into the working path.
after finish the application i dont know which files are exactly using. therefore i make a lot of notes, but by god the most i forget after one day.

so, what i want to know is, which file of the path is without using, and which call is with no file. last thing you are doing with your application.
first would be helpfull.

right, I get you now.

Yes the next step is to look at all the file references within the skin files.

But you also want a list of files (swf etc) that are not actually being used?

I'll add that to list.

Enforcer has a great idea. I like to throw my entire skin file onto a thumb drive and just replace the one in my car. Problem is my dev computer has a lot of "great stuff" i.e. crap that I never deleted when it got replaced. This would save me a few minutes every upload saving me like a half hour by the time i die.....well worth it. Great work!

Beta looks good enforcer. I'm not sure if you understood the request I was talking about though:

If I have, say oldcrappy.skin, and there's no other skins referencing oldcrappy, I'd would like it if the program said: oldcrappy.skin is not referenced by any other skins. Thus, I should prolly delete it. Theory being that, aside from menu.skin or loader.skin, any skin not referenced by another shouldn't be used.

Disclaimer: I understand that this gets complicated as people call skins from exec.tbl which wouldn't be referenced in a skin.

Just a 2 cent recommendation though

I will next be looking at adding a check for the Road Runner default commands
and also those personalised in ExecTbl.ini.

Then I will look at it the other way, ie. see what files are in your skin
folder that aren't referenced in any of the .skin files.
