what GPS app with what skin in RR
Up until now I used nRoute as my GPS app (I load it in RR as an external GPS app), and it was a pain because all I had was the windows window embedded in RR...small buttons, pop up menus, had to use a real keyboard etc etc...
I wanna use either Robby BMW e36 skin or the simplistique skin. Wich GPS app would be better to use with these 2 skins and generally in RR (iGuidance, mappoint, destinator...)
I live in the US
I searched but didnīt really see anything about compatibility issues with either one.
Should I just get either and make my own gps.skin if itīs not in the skin I wanna use?
thanks
Cheers

You will have to look at the skins and see what they support as the authors tend to include skins for their favourite app.
Mappoint is native in RR but not as feature rich as others. For destinator you can use either freedrive or mapmonkey as destinator on its own doesn't work on a PC.

In the U.S the best one IMHO is iGudiance. Works very well embedded in RR.
Can look like this.

iGuidance is nice, but there are other options.
I am testing UMPC now actually, and I like it, but I miss S&T 2006 sometimes. For instance, the POI database is severely lacking in iGuidance whereas it is awesome in Streets and Trips.
iGuidance is great to use on a touchscreen with no skin needed. iGuidance auto-reroutes when you miss a turn. The 3.0 Maps are much much nicer than the previous versions and are better than S&T 06. Previous versions of iGuidance however, this was a flaw.
Streets and Trips however is not too friendly on a touchscreen without a skin. Many different routing features on S&T such as a gas warning when your tank gets low based on average mpg, and everything. Just small little things. Also you can add POI's as thumbtacks, where in iGuidance you can only add saved "favourites" which must be a street address. For example my university is huge. The default address in iGuidance is correct for the main office. The main office is about 1 mile from where the building I park at is. In Streets and Trips I just added a pushpin and saved the map, and then routed to the pushpin, not the actual address. In iGuidance, I can't do this, because it is not a real address. It is an address on a "fake road" meaning not a real mapped road, just little ones the university put in that are not governed by local laws type roads.
So read the GPS FAQ thread and it pretty much lists the pros and cons of each app. And any GPS can be embedded by making a skin and most have already been made.
THe thing I like best about iG UMPC though is the 3d maps. S&T does not do this. But I have driver issues with iG, whereas M$ has great universal support for gps pucks.

I said it in a few other threads but I figured it is worth spreading the word again. Garmin MapSource has, hands down, the best POIs I have seen. I have not been able to stump it. It is just very clunky to use in our environment. I have it loaded for I am looking ofr a place or need a phone number.
I have Mappoint loaded as well but dont like it much at all.
iGuidance looks the best and is the easiest to use.

Actually I use both.
iG for general navigation. S&T for lookup info when iG can't provided. Also cross check routing on both when going to an unfamiliar area (talking about hrs of driving not 15-30 minutes away.)
OP, open these files in the skin folder and change if needed.
- ExecTBL.ini to see any custom command for the GPS command
- menu.skin (menu2/menu3.skin if any) to see what command use for GPS button. Most skinner seem to use the RUN command like RUN;path-to-gps-app.exe.
- External_GPS.skin (or any Name-Of-Software_gps.skin like iguidance_gps.skin) to see what is the code/command use for that particular skin.
