I've been driving her... I lowered the suspension, cleaned her all up, & just been too busy for much else.
the vents are still sitting at around 80% completed, i just need to build the viens for up/down deflection... I don't weven want to piut them in without this or it'll never get done, so it sits..
overhead I haven't done much either... I'm still a little undecided what I'm going to do there & I want to play around with a projector lamp up there lighting up the screen. the reflective is really cool in the sun & you can see it awesome, belive it or not, the real problem I'm having with it is, when it's very bright out, but the screen is NOT being hit by sunlight, it's kinda dim... the screen is front lit anyway, so adding to the front light should be easier than adding backlight, but this will probably wind up built into the overhead shining down with a focused beam.
all & all she's close to complete for stage one, & I'm happy with the results so far.

Turbo, I have a off-topic question for you.
Can similar plastic melting tools and techniques be used on the Firebird/Camaro cars front fenders and bumper covers?

yes, but the bumper is a bit of a pain in the ***, it's pp & I use special welding "rods" from urethane supply corp., the fenders are a bit easier & can be done with just the plastic of the fender itself from what I remember, the bumper won't work like that, & you have to have the special stuff to weld that...

Gorgeous man, just gorgeous. Two questions. 1 what was the total cost to you and 2 how low did you drop it?

Dang! You gotta love Infinitis. Turbo, your cars nice as hell, but too expensive. I was trying to view all the photos, but im on a Slowsky connection. I'll have to start saving now so in 1.5 years I can get 1 too. Kudos on all the hard work bro!

wow, total cost... I never figured it out really, your question has made me curious myself, so, at the risk of being hated by some, I guess I'll list my total cost here, so here goes:
1 03 fx35, 53kmiles, front end damage.......................................... $7,000.00
07 style front bumper............................................ .................... $268.02
07 sport grille............................................ .............................. $252.66
grile emblem............................................ ................................ $33.34
radiator support........................................... ............................ $317.99
aftermarket rad/condensor & fan assy.........................(approx.).... $450.00
rad reservoir......................................... .................................. $53.26
hood.............................................. ....................................... $407.40
hood lock/latch............................................. ........................... $39.22
2 fenders........................................... .................................... $536.82
1 wheel opening molding........................................... ................ $67.06
rf fender liner extention......................................... ................... $35.74
factory air cleaner assy.............................................. .............. $184.82
2 front door lower moldings, 07 style.......................................... $59.22
2 rear door lower moldings, 07 style........................................... $56.72
2 lower rocker covers, 07 style............................................. .... $475.84
aluminum roof rack, new sport style.......................................... $350.00
1 seatbelt.......................................... .................................. $139.46
07 style dashboard......................................... ....................... $577.16
07 style bezel for fabrication....................................... ............ $172.38
new style sport headlights & tails.................(ebay).................... $250.00
misc coolants & fluids, freon, etc.............................................. $60.00
paint & materials.......................................(a pprox)................. $500.00
1 reflective 10.4 fujitsu tablet......................(approx............... .. $700.00
1 anti glare fujitsu tochscreen overlay...........(approx)................ $200.00
1 set 3pc. maya wheels/tires shipped....................................... $1,620.00
2 front wheel bearings.......................................... ................. $300.00
H&R lowering springs........................................... .................. $275.00
__________________________________________________ _________________
GRAND TOTAL............................................. ......................... $15,382.11
funny thing is, if I just guessed, I woulda said like $15k give or take, didn't realize how close I actually was
the items in red is where the real scores of a deal were... & all parts from infiniti are cost after my 20% discount
I don't think I forgot anything, of course this is not including any labor, these fx's still go for good money & you'd have a hard time still finding a nice stock 03 for much less than like $25,000, so I'd say I did alright on this one
as far as the lowering, it's a 2.0" drop front 1.5" rear I think... these H&R's are made in germany & they don't suck like most lowering springs, the fx really rides just as nice as it did before lowering it belive it or not, maybe even a bit better even cause the 03's stock were very stiff, infiniti refined the spring rates for the next model year. it doesn't look slammed at all, it really just looks normal... stock they look jacked up really, these springs just bring it to where it should be really
I'm not done spending on this truck I think... if I wind up doing a system in it that'll add thousands for sure... then I'd love to do big brakes & turbocharge it eventually, by the time I'm done it may wind up costing me around what the truck would be worth stock, maybe even a little more, but it'll be just a bit better than a stock 03 I'd say

Probably more... considering you have the body work long before you even get to anything computer related

I guess around $10k is about right really in labor, I mean had I been doing this for a customer...
after parts & materials already included above, the body & paint woulda been close to 5 grand, the pc fab maybe $3,500 or so, plus a bunch of misc extras... maybe not quite 10 grand yet, but pretty close...
the beauty of this though is I didn't have to spend that to do this, the majority of labor I did myself, so even though it cost me time, & time is money, it's still better than having to pay, & then again, I could just charge myself below wholesale to feel that much better about it

thanks man, not really... I have a few friends that I may help a bit but I don't really have much time to do stuff like this on a regular basis or for customers really, few & far between if I do.
now the ironic part is that right now. I can't finish my fx cause I'm trying to finish up a friend/customers install I put him off untill I got mine in & working & on the road.
now it was supposed to be a simple thing really, the guys not a computer nerd really, don't know a front end from a megabyte, all he wants is to be able to use his laptop in the car comfortably if he ever wants to go online, that's it. we already did a whole kenwood multimedia setup with every bell & whistle available a few years ago, dvd's nav & satellite radio & hd radio & everything is already there, so the laptop really isn't for that stuff
original plan was real simple, the center console is already removed, I was going to hinge a small touchscreen laptop dock that folds down, just fold it up & dock the lappy, then either remove it or leave it there, but be able to fold it down out of the way.
the laptop I made him buy for this install is the same one I use as a portable daily, it's a fujitsu tablet with a 8.9" widescreen, it's touchscreen & transflective, a p1610, nice piece
as I designed the hinge I just didn't like it, I was going to have to have a mechanical lock to hold it up, & I just wasn't feeling it, after much screwing with it, I decided to change plans, I decided I wanted the tablet to slide in & out of the dash, as I built it I decided to motorize it, I've been working on it spare time now for like 5 weeks or so. I had to do modifications to the inner climate control box & ductwork too
it works sick, it ejects out pretty fast & locks in place with a firm clank sound, the motor reaches it's limit switch & the cable drive is spring loaded to hold it tight, it's at the perfect height & distance to type directly on it's keyboard, it's screen is directly below the main multimedia display. both can be used at the same time. the only thing blocked by the laptop screen when open is half the climate control.
fold it closed & it retracts back into the dash & disapears, all that you see is a panel with the round cadillac clock in it, this panel hinges down & forward when the laptop is ejected & folds up & closed as it retracts, the clock panel & lower console is still under design & construction but the electro mechanical is done
I used a window motor & cable drive, I used heavy duty sliders, I used 1/4" bar stock for the mount, welded directly to the main rienfocement bar of the dash, it is good for repeated use & abuse, it'll last for years, when it leaves here I don't want it back with mechanical issues so I over built it, or at least built it strong enough
I know this has nothing to do with my thread, but it's the reason theres no progress on my own truck, so maybe it's slightly relevent, plus a few fabrication shots never hurt nothin

Turbo,
quicks questions man:
1. what is the model # for the touchscreen overlay you used?
2. Does the touchscreen effect the sunlight readability of the tablet?
thanks man.

hey, those are 20's, stock size but 9" wide instead of 8" stock.
eventually I will put a rear pc for my kid, nothing definate as to how yet, maybe a center console with another matching tablet...
anik, the touchscreen is a fujitsu anti-glare, don't know much else, got it from motorcity, a little under $200 but excellent, don't hurt the reflective screen really, worth the $$ I think... very nice touchscreen, I shoulda put a vituki screen protector on it though, the anti-glare coating scratches easy & someone already scratched it a bit...
