Not necessarily. You could wire them into the buttons on a game pad and then get a program called joytokey and map each button to a keystroke and implement that into roadrunner

correct. i never said that keeping the hu was the only way, but my steering wheel buttons work by resistance from the same 2 wires, which makes things a little more complicated so i said the hell with it and bought a car2pc adapter

Just a thought, but wouldn't it work better with a power diode between the battery and the cap?

i haven't been able to find a diode big enough to handle the amperage that flows through the cap at start up

So you only had to order the Mechatroniks kit, and use http://retailer.installationexcellen...productid=8563 to install the LCD in your dash?
Did you have to fab anything on the dash, or just bolt on those two to make it work?

Too small diode

If you are talking about burning out the diode when the cap is discharged AND you are starting up then you would need a current-inrush limiting power resister in series with the diode to slow down the capacitor charging rate. During normal operation, if sized properly, the resister would have no effect.
When the cap is fully charged and you are starting the diode would prevent the starter motor from robbing voltage and charge from your capacitor needed to keep the computer in hybernate until the alternator pulls the system back up to 14.7 volts.

Sorry about that. I forgot you already stated this (multiple times).
You made the screw holes for the mechatroniks kit longer, correct? Other than that, did the kit interfere with anything else inside the radio/HVAC area?
Thanks!

Excellent install,
I was wondering what screen I could get to fit into my dash w/out me hacking it up. I appreciate the thread.

Injector - How long did it take you to receive your Mechtroniks kit? I ordered the bezel over a week ago and I havn't gotten any response, but an electronic tracking number saying it has not been shipped out yet. Thanks.
