There are a couple ways I could go. I could hack up the cluster and fit the screen right over the gauges. I would have to chop a hole out of the top and hope I can still make it fit in the dash. Not likely. Or cover up the bottom digital display and hope I can recreate it on the lcd.
Or I could mount the screen on the outside glass and wouldn't have to hack up anything. Not the best way but might be a temporary solution until I figure out how to do it right.
Once my Ibus adapter arrives I can figure out how to get a steering wheel button to flip through cluster screens.
Suggestions?

I like the idea, but the big thing is what is going to be displayed, and what it's refresh rate will be, color choice, etc. It can be made to look great, or very bad. Have you checked if the OBD data is displayed in real time? Sometimes the GPS data (for speed, for instance) is more reliable than the OBD data, it depends on how many sensors you are reading any given time.
The Chrysler Pacifica has an LCD right where you want to put it, only smaller:
With a bigger, custom screen, it can be made to look awesome.
Now, can't you relocate the stock, tiny screen closer to the rearview mirror perhaps? Maybe embedding it in it? Or maybe to a side vent custom mount?
It would look better without the stock red display there, IMHO.
