Totally agree. I got a friend who works at the local shop. He does a lot of fiberglassing and custom work too. First thing he said when he saw my system was "can it fly yet?" That kind of ****ed me off. Made me wanna go buy a USB joystick and MS flight simulator just to go and laugh at him and say "yes it CAN fly"

I removed the lower dash panel below the steering colum, radio bezel, ashtray bezel, glove box, disconnect the air circulation cable, air outlet vent position cable, heater core gate cable under the hood. I carefully feed the heater core gate cable through the firewall, and feed the other 2 cables through the dash behind the glovebox and pulled the AC control unit out. Then I reposition the AC control unit into the spot where I want it. I had to cut the radio support bracket on the dash and some plastic mounting holes for the AC control unit. The backstrap I used to hold the AC control unit is about 1/16 inch thick. It is very very strong. The whole process took me about 6 hours.

edit: Once you mounted the AC control unit, You have to modify the face plate and also the radio/AC bezel to fit. The bezel covers part of the AC button.

Where can I find a good place to put all my infos and maybe some FAQs. I have a usersite but I cant access it. I'll probably need 20-30MB of space.

Looks GREAT (except for the DVD which I think looks out of place)... Amazing fiberglass work with the dash. I would think that anyone who doesnt get all excited would be a compliment because they probably dont realize thats not what the dash looked like from the factory.

Two things I would have done if I had the skill of customization you do would be to remove the LCD from its case and integrate the buttons into the bezel and do something different for the drive... That drive is really throwing off the stock feel IMHO.

Actually, after looking at the last pic you posted (which I didnt see before) the CD drive makes more sense as you will have the hub and PC in plain view. Well done

But overall, I would give you two thumbs up. Hard to believe how far we have came since the p120 & 4x 40 LCD days huh?

Mike

Thanks for the kind words. After a few months with the system, the avaliblity of new hardware, and new imaginations, I have planty of new ideas for my next system. But due to school, the lack of time and funding, and the new Tacomas wont come out til 05, version 2 will not exist for another 2 to 3 years. I don't even have the time to finish the armrest/slide out mouse pad that I'm working on right now. Next system will have the same as current plus 4X40 char LCD molded into the top of steering colum, USB XM sat, head up VGA display on the winshield for night driving, hardware Dolby Digital decoder control via serial or USB, GPS sat tracking, good ole VHS and audio cassette (for the parents), all 7 types of memory card reader molded into the dash, head unit control from PC via USB IR sender, and yes the CD drive will be molded into the dash as if the car came with a CD drive like .NJay's and color, texture matched so will all the USB, audio, firewire, SATA ports. Thats all the crap I can think of at this time. Who knows, maybe in a year or two new USB toys will show up that'll interest me. Maybe a second CarPC networked together for rear pass infotainment
