2006 Scion TC & Guru Car Computer

I blogged about the Guru Car Computer product recently on our home page. Here are the full high resolution pictures about how the install happened. Full specs, pictures, and details will be released late next week on the store for those of you who might want to buy one. I will also be taking this to the BBQ tomorrow for anyone who wants to see it.

We use our Scion for testing out all sorts of projects. For the last 6 months we have been using to test the guru PC. This is a super quick work log mainly because of there was so little to do.

Here is a screenshot of the Scion Dash

We took out the factory radio. The Guru doesn’t come with a mounting bracket so we re-used the bolts to hold it into the bottom two holes. One of these days we will drill out the top 2 so we have a total of 4 mounting points.

There is tons of room in the dash. You can see we are also testing OBD-II and our horribly late BoomzBox HD radio tuner.

I soldered and shrink wrapped a wiring harness.

With my newly soldered harness, the connectors match perfectly.

I installed a pcmcia Verizon Internet card, USB extension cables to the glove box, the wiring harness, the GPS antenna, Wifi Antenna.

In it goes:

Finished.
If this were not in our lab car we would probably invest in getting a silver trim bracket to seal the space in-between the unit and the dashboard.

With the cards and stuff sticking out of the back, what is the total depth this thing plunges into the dash?

EDIT: And what's that little circuit board on the side in the second shot?

Full specs will be released next week on depth.

The circuit board is a broad com bluetooth adapter for hands free calling.

This was asked in the other Forum, but I thought I would re-ask about the external DVI connection on the rear? does it allow dual monitor support?

Whoa, HD Radio. I'll be looking forward to seeing your list. I do not see it in the store right now.

Edit
Found forum dedicated to it: face-palm

Does it have a reversing camera video input and if so is it 12v switched and PAL/NTSC?

I noticed you installed HD radio. I believe the Guru came with internal FM radio. Were you able to successfully integrate the internal FM radio with Centrafuse?

There is some very light documentation on it, but it isn't something we spent a lot of time on. There is a very basic gui which can control the radio out of the box.

Reason I am asking is because I purchased a pre-production Azentek Atlas CPC-1000 which is very very similar to the Guru. My unit came with a windows OS and nothing else. I have installed Centrafuse onto the system with great success, the only thing that is not working is the FM radio. However, after reading through some of the other forums I might just install an HD radio but would like to make that decision after I hear what the stock FM radio sounds like.

Fiberoptic: What HD radio works best with the Guru? I noticed you had the MP3Car version in the photos, have you used any others with this setup and Centrafuse? I believe HD radio's that work best with Centrafuse are Visteon HDZ300 and Directed Electronics DMHD1000.

Also, it appears that Mitch's cable for HD radio uses a serial port which I believe these units do not have. How did you accomplish this, USB to serial cable? Is there trouble with a USB to serial going in and out of hibernation?
