What are you using to get the gps data displayed on the bottom of the screen? (you mentioned his on your site that the text on the bottom of the screen was GPS information)

Each screen shown there is part of a VB application - on the Music Screen, it's just pulling data from the GPS and showing it in a text box - so they're not showing up on the desktop or saything like that. The mapping software (OziExplorer) is running in the background all the time, and I imagine the speed and heading details are pulled from there.

Does that answer the question? (I'm not sure if it does!)

OziExplorer has an API that means it can call functions in the VB app upon new data available. It does this every second to show the speed and heading.

The VB app additionally has a list of post office locations throughout Australia that are scanned each second and their distance calculated from the current position. The closest one is shown on the screen as the "current" suburb.

Cheers, Spud.

No prizes for guessing who wrote the software!

I'll take some clearer action screenshots when the new screen arrives.

New Screen on the way

Ordered a 7" screen from Armen, which has now arrived - now to install it.

Found the worlds smallest (well, maybe) powered USB hub (about 70mm x 20mm x 10mm), which will form part of the new centre console control panel so that I can use the USB mini keyboard I bought from ebay. The hub runs on 5v, so I don't even need to fool around with powering it.

w00t!

No sooner than I get my filthy paws on the new 7" screen, and it's time to uninstall, return the car to stock, and prepare for the next installation in a new car. New car/pics/dramas to come!

Hi,

Could you list the specs for your power supply and if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you and was it a custom job. I did have a look at their website but couldnt see anything for DC-DC prices or specs.

Cheers

Andy

Power supply was from PC Power & Cooling (there's a link to their website from mine). It's a 12v DC-DC 100W supply, and cost me USD109.65 (+freight). The model number is T10-12V, and it was, at the time, a stock item. I've noticed that it has disappeared from their website, but I think that you can still buy them - just email and ask.

Hope that helps.
