Nope i didn't measure at all cause i wasn't sure of what kind of box i was going to go with but when i pulled those out the box i was just surprised.

Hello BX,

I've been reading your entire thread this one and the other one that you started before. I've got a couple of questions for you, I'm going to be doing a Civic install soon also.

1. Did you get your navigation dash panel from a Honda Dealer? I found this dash panel from an online dealer parts store and it looks like the Double Din Navigation Dash that I will be needing (Item 12 in diagram).

The first one is a lot cheaper than Crutchfield, just wondering if you recall the product number from when you purchased yours.

2. How is your heat issues with your CarPC mounted in the trunk? I'm going to fabricate a mounting panel that will be mounted below the speakers in the trunk because I don't want to lose trunk space like you did but I live in Houston and it gets really hot here in the summer.

3. I have a Shuttle XPC that I was thinking of using for my CarPC. It has been a really good and durable rig. I take it all over the place and it's been banged around pretty hard and always reliable. The MOBO also has a PCIe slot and a PCI slot so I can have stand alone video and audio (I hate intergrated graphics). Also Shuttle XPC has good driver support for their MOBO's and BIOS.

I'm currently using the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 1333MHz Socket 775 Dual-Core 65nm Processor with 2G of RAM.

I'm new to this CarPC stuff but have vast knowledge in the desktop world. I was hoping to strip the components from my shuttle, but I not sure if it would be compatible with the ATX Power Supplies with integrated Startup/Shutdown Controllers.

What do you think?

I finally found some information about one of my questions. It looks like I could easily use my Shuttle for my project. I'll most likely go with the OPUS 360W PS.

I did get the metra kit. I don't think this one from crutchfield is the one that i got. You could still probably fabricate that into the dash pretty easily

Heat issues are pretty severe. I'm not comfortable running any computer with the processor temp at 60C. Thats how hot the processor gets even with the 3 fans i have in that case when its about 84 degrees outside.

I think that should be fine but i'm not sure how the desktop processors will fare in high temp. It might be ok though. Obviously with 2GB of ram ur resume from hibernate will be slower but it should work fine with any psu.

Well for some reason I listed the wrong processor that I have in my Shuttle, lol I was pretty tired last night. It's actually the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6320 (4M Cache, 1.86 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB) and runs 39 degrees C with the stock heatsink assembly from Shuttle. However this is inside my house where its 75 degrees F. I would have to do a test trial and see how the heat issue would be. I still have a lot of time before I actually do the install so I will do some testing and post results.

Oh, one other question. Why does more RAM affect your Hibernation? I mean in the desktop world more RAM is always better, I'm really curious as why that would be different with a CarPC.

This is news to me.

Hibernation takes longer because the PC has to save more information then with a system that has low ram. I dont think the going into hibernation is a big deal, your leaving the car anyways, lol. Now when waking up I have not noticed that it takes longer, it seems to wake up really fast.

I would assume the reverse of ur statement must be true Hijack. If it needs more time to save the memory it takes more time to restore. Of course the restore can be negliable. I think if you have a decent motherboard it should restore pretty fast. The reason i say this is my msi fuzzy board took forever to resume from hibernation. This gigabyte board resumes extremely fast. I think if you can keep ur computer at 50C at almost full load u'll be fine in the car.

Maybe, but yea im running a X2 system, so maybe thats why i wake up in about 7 seconds. Only thing I hate about my board is that it takes long to register all my USB devices.... So yea it all depends on hardware.

After post it takes like 10secs for my system to fully boot. It takes 5secs for the system to start and post takes a bit. I guess like 9secs since i resume in a total of 24secs. My msi board took forever to load the usb devices too. My gigabyte is extremely quick.

Unfortunately it looks like I can't keep all my stuff hidden. There just isn't enough room for the two amps and the computer. One amp is going to have to go on the other sidein the trunk area.

Well with the little room i have behind that baffle i just waved goodbye to my clean wiring install. There are wires everywhere. It is the sloppiest thing i can imagine. I'm almost done and i'll post finished pics soon.

Where's the pictures lol?! Unfortunately I ran all over the place in my dinky town that has nothing for glassing supplies and wasted a day. Hang in there I'll be posting some more of my work soon, I think it may help you out.

Also, have you ever thought of putting your CarPC inside your console? That's where mine is going. I'm going to either get another console from a wrecked car or order the side pieces so I can work on it without taking my car apart until its done.

I doubt what you are doing would help me. Its basically that i have a little space and long wires. The power, ground and remote wires are easy to fix but the USB cables and XM cables i can't cut down.

I'm not sure what you mean by console. If you mean the radio console there isn't enough room. If you mean center console there isn't enough room. If you mean cabin there isn't enough room lol. I did not want to modify the structure of my car and that is the only way u can even fit a 7inch board in the dash.
