Also, have you ever thought of putting your CarPC inside your console? That's where mine is going. I'm going to either get another console from a wrecked car or order the side pieces so I can work on it without taking my car apart until its done.

Taking the car apart is fun! I only have 3 out of the 6 seats installed, no dash, no side panels, no head liner. Its funny because the Police visited me because there was an odd car sitting infront of my house (my neighbors are drug dealers) so I get nervous when stuff like that happens. I know most of the police so he was walking past my car, then stopped. He was like OMG was your car broken into, do you want to make a report. I was like nooooo, its not broken into, the interior is in my room being upgraded. He then of course said why. So then I pointed to his squad car and said when Im done upgrading it, it will take 20 of your squad cars to equal the power of my truck, PC wise. He laughed and went on his merry way. Later I did feel kinda bad that I have no interior, but only for .00099 seconds. The end result will be worth it.

I'm not sure what you mean by console. If you mean the radio console there isn't enough room. If you mean center console there isn't enough room. If you mean cabin there isn't enough room lol. I did not want to modify the structure of my car and that is the only way u can even fit a 7inch board in the dash.

About the console I was referring to the center console between the front seats. Yes, your CarPc will fit there but your going to have to gut the console and do some major fabrication modifications. That's why I said I'm getting another console from a wrecked car or just ordering the side panels so I can start cutting and glassing. Not sure if your good at glass or not, it helps to be so your not limited as much. As for the wires I'm not sure how you have them, but you can get flex split tubing and such at Fry's Electronics that makes wires look a lot nice. They are all hidden within and you just run some tie wraps around them.

Here's an example from some extra stuff I had laying around that I use for wire consolidation while building Desktop PC for better air flow.

It comes in different sizes too. The flexible tube that I have the Ethernet cable run through I usually put a piece of heat shrink on the end for a real nice finished product. I'm thinking if you used something like that you could have 3 or 4 sets or less of consolidated cables with other cables inside and it will look a lot nicer.

Just an idea I'm throwing out at you maybe it will help.

The cable cover on the ethernet, what is that for? Heat protection? I just ran a bunch of cables (DVI-D, 5 audio, 7 USB cables) I notice that the location is kind of warm, almost hot, when the car is on. Should I worry about it?

LOL, HiJack!! I was just showing how wires could be hidden that way, that's the first thing I saw laying around and just shoved it in there. Ethernet doesn't need a cover, although you could run anything through that stuff that you like. It's all personal preference and makes wires look nice and neat.

This was an example only.

About worrying about heat on cables, so long as they are insulated I wouldn't worry a lot. You could run them through the split tubing for extra protection.

This was my point. I have a little space and long wires. They all go off in different directions so if i did use tubbing (which i have tons of already) i would just have a mess of tubbing and wires lol.. The only solutions for me are either shorter wires or more space.

Moding the center console was something i didn't want to do and i'm 100% sure all of my stuff would not fit in such a manner that everything liked stocked. That was my plan for my car to have a computer and have it completely stock(of that means as much as possible).

I have this thing about heat, it makes me very nervous. All the wires run down the middle of the car with heavy carpeting, and seats that sit on top. So seeing them is no problem. Im not worried about the DVI because its so think, its just the audio (the special 7.1 cable for my Xtremegamer sound card, its very thin) and the USB. Maybe I can simply place a heat absorbing pad in the areas that get warm.

I have a fiber optic cable running under my seat from my Alpine sound processor to the head unit and it's very delicate and never had any problems.
If your really worried about the heat you can get some thermal pad material and pull up carpet and put it in between your cable and carpet. I'm not sure what's it called but I know its available. You'll see in car around the firewall and where the exhaust runs.

Hahahaha i'm really not use to not being able to run the car on battery for long time lol. Once i powered the amp that ship sailed. I just killed my battery in like 30 mins or so. Maybe it wasn't fully charged to begin with. Anyway. I cleaned up my wire mess to the best of my ability. Everything but sub amp is installed so i have no bass but everything else is working well.

My thermal issue just got a lot worse. Even on a cool day with no sun my comp was at 55C. This is going to cause a problem i know it. Will just have to wait and see.

What are you using to pull the temp? Are you doing it from BIOS or Windows?

Are your AMPs mounted close to your CarPC case, if so that could generate a lot of heat.

I never trust the temp reading on the PC itself, especially in a car environment. I used Speed Fan and it kept saying that my GPU and PSU were on fire. Thing is my case is designed to move $h!+ loads of air over the PC. Even if its hot in the cabin, as soon as the PC fans come on, its already started to drop tempatures by a huge amount. I then decided to buy a laser thermometer, that seems to be acurate. You can also touch the heatsinks with your finger. Let me ask, are you using the original thermal paste on all the heatsinks? I would buy a high grade thermal paste and replace all the old paste. I know on the GPU it had thermal tape, even though it has little hold tabs that keep it in place. I then scrapped all of it off and put thermal paste on it. That helped alot.

I agree..... If they are close you may have to design a case that can move alot of the air away..... On the rear PC systems, they are all stacked up with the AMPS sitting under them. I am going to mount a fan that blows air in from the top, then another fan that blows the air out the bottom side.

Coretemp seems to be pretty accurate based on the bios reading as well. I did a comparison when i first installed the app. My Amp is quiet close to the computer and i agree that is causing some more heat but DAMN 15 degrees. Thats a huge amount of additional heat. I think its the small compartment its in just not having enough air flow. What i need to do is cut some holes in that false wall and install some fans or something. I'm gonna wait for it to fail before i try and do that though. The datasheet for the processor claims it will work fine from 0-100C and if i stay under 70C it may never fail. We shall see. Its going to be 88F next friday. I'll wait for that and see how bad it looks.

I think i'm just take my drill to that MCS case which is apparently poorly designed. I'm gonna have to just drill some giant holes on the top and hope that helps the issue. I may even get what i believe to be a better cpu cooler.

Gotta wait till it fails first though

You know I always have these crazy ideas, but why not cut like air slots in the part behind the seats next to the rear windsheild. like next to the rear speakers. Maybe one on the side of each speaker. Then mount fans that draw air into the PC/AMP compartment, then in the false wall, cut 2 holes also with fans pull the air out into the trunk.

PS: Im fixing my heat issues with heat shield tape for the wires.
