Does your touch screen support VGA output?

Great setup -- I love PCs in classic cars. Nice work.

Yes it does. 800X600 display. My initial idea was to use the eeepc screen with a touchscreen kit attached but simply found the ribbon too short. Then I went and broke the screen anyway. So once the budget had been destroyed I found a shop demo screen at a fair price and am running it through the vga output on the eeepc. was a bit gutted about the eeepc screen as I reckon they are a good screen for this type of application.

Very nice car. Is it hard to see the touch screen? It looks like it sits a bit too low and recessed to be easily seen (while driving at least).

Thanks. Infact the view is very good. I can also see the screen unhindered through the steering wheel as well. Due to the Steering wheel being more akin to a bus wheel than anything else. Probably more an issue having to lean slightly forward to make adjustments but thats about the only complaint that I notice. Any more forward and the gear shift would become a problem anyway.

A mate of mine has come up with a new future addition. Side profile camera mounted in such a way as to view burnouts in real time. Now theres a valued feature

Hey looks pretty good, I thought about going with one of those consoles with my 66. I built it instead, turned out pretty good, check it out.

I started with a 3mm Hard wood base, then some Fiberglass bondy finished with some trim black. I plan to replace it with an identical. Im not entirely happy with the finish of this one. Plus i have to reset the whole console with some packers placed in strategic places. After 40 odd years, its got a noticable warp front to back which makes the screen not sit quite square.

That provides inspiration for me to do a 57 Bel-Air. How long did all that take?

Hard to say. Probably about 3 months all up. The hardest part was getting the screen to sit into a 40 year old Console. Lots of trial and error. Power supply was easy as the fords have an accesory stalk running off the back of the ignition switch.

Mate you have to do it. A 57 Chev is just begging for a Carputer.
