screen

awesome job, i also have an MKIV GTI, How exactly did you extend the screen, to my understanding the cable that connects the screen (lvs) degrades the signal after a certain length or something. pics would be nice DDD

This was my primary idea when i started this little project + it's much easier to see the navigation/Dashcommand . I like the oem look.

Thanks!

The problem about the length of the cable made me wanna do this. I didn't believe that so i had to try it for my self.
Don't start this type of modification if you don't have good soldering skills and lots of patience...
i don`t have any problems with my display and the cable length is ~1,5 meters. If you do the soldering right you won't have any problems.
I will post some pictures of the cable itself in my next post.
p.s. Scrambles if you didn't mount you pc yet you could do it under the steering wheel there is lots of space .... if you do some modification to the relay panel you can fit an entire desktop in there:P!
Hope to see your project done soon!

Sounds awesome, i can solder pretty well (a little out of practice), and i havent started my project beyond planning (financial reasons) i might just take an old 7" eee w/ touch screen mod and put it where my stock radio is currently.

Then you can do it! You can use that eee it will work like a charm! If you put it there you will have some problems with the light reflection.

It`s much easier to look at the road and at nav, for me its better than in the dashboard.

VWs the visor and head room is low so something like that would work nice.

Wow that takes courage to do, and a lot of patience I would imagine. I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I've installed a lilliput instead. Still, you did a great job.

Much respect!
