This is my first install after a few years of checkin out this site. Still have some tweaking to do and of course other things i want to add, but it is up and running and got me smiling for now at least...Here are some pictures of what i have done so far. My next step is getting some carpet to match my interior and wrap the box. I am going to try to mould the monitor into the dash eventually, but haven't attempted to tackle that as I have no fabrication experience. Let me know what you all think...

Nice job, The box looks very well built. Just a note on wrapping the box in carpet: you will never get it to wrap around corners nicely, you will need to cut it, and sew the corners to make a decent job. (I know this from having my sub box done) I found a guy that suppled the automotive tan matching carpet & did the labour for $70. The carpet was going to cost me almost $40. So consider having it done. The other possibilty is use tan Vinyl with a padding underneath. That, you could probably do yourself.

did you eliminate the headunit? i have '02 sd and trying to decide where to mount monitor.

Yes, I will be eliminating the headunit. I have had a 99, 03, 04, and now an 07 sd. That black bezel just pulls off, it's on a bunch of clips. You will need the U shaped radio removal tool that you can buy at wallyworld for a couple of bucks to pull the radio first, then the bezel just pulls off and the switches all unplug from behind. The hole for the radio on the 99-04's is just slightly smaller then the 05-07 but there is room around it to enlarge it slightly. When I get to modifying mine, I will post pics either here and/or on my website.

yes, i removed the HU as well. I purchased the radio shark to use for radio. It works well enough for the station i listen to (strong signal) so I am happy with that. I barely had to trim the bezel in order to get the monitor in there as it is only slightly larger than the stock HU. One of these days i plan to try to fabricate the monitor into the bezel, but for now i am happy with fitting the monitor in the hole with a piece of trim strip to cover the jagged edge. I will be posting more pictures soon...

as for the carpet, I found a place to get carpet to match the stock carpet and plan to order that. luckily i know some carpet installers, and am hopin to get one of those guys to wrap the box for me...maybe a couple beers will persuade them.

I seem to remember my friend removing his stock head unit with a wire coat hanger. He had a 2001 or 2002 F150. This may not have been the right way to do it though. But if Walmart is just selling you a fancy wire coat hanger (and you happen to already own one), then it might be worthwhile to look into.

Edit: HAHAHA. I guess I should have read everything and paid attention. azlunchbox already removed his stock head unit (obviously). So this information might be helpful to those who have not already done so.

i used a wire hanger too. all you need to do is get something in there to release the clips and slide it out. the tools they sell have little knobs at the end that helps you pull the unit out. wire hanger works just fine if it is stiff enough to pop the clips loose.

Those tools work pretty slick & are like $3 at wallyworld then you own it for life. I have done it with coat hangers many times until I found the tool. Coat hangers can be frustrating if you can't get them to unlock the tabs on the first couple of tries.

i have the Lilliput 7" EBY701T 2008 model. It works ok in direct sunlight, i can still read it, but have a hard time finding the mouse arrow sometimes. From my understanding the 2009 model of the same monitor is much better for daytime use. I am very satisfied with my monitor, especially for the price. I bought it new on Ebay for like $175.

I'm looking for someone to design a new website since I feel like my wordpress one is kind of dull. Maybe make it a forum based website or something, but jazzed up a bit. Our current forums isn't very spruced up and seems pretty plain.
