First of all I would like to say hello to everyone and a BIG THANK YOU!!!!!!

I started my "carputer" project almost 3 years ago. At that time I was looking for some info on it but could not come up with ANYTHING. Three years later, I found you all. (Just when I was thinking about selling my "carputer" project.)

Well, I am sorry if this is the wrong area to post this, but I dont have pics (yet) of my car setup. But I am NOW thinking about redoing it all (thanks to this forum)

My Amp

From my understanding, This would replace my power converter as well as my power supply going into my "carputer"

This would hook into my computer and then to my cars battery? I guess the only problem I could think of is how would it hook into my computer? I tguess I would have to cut a hole into my case?

As far as this system not cutting it for me, I think its too much stuff in a 94 mitsubishi eclipse. The computer does MOST of the stuff I want it to do w/o all the extras. (I still have 2 12's in a box not listed) The only thing the computer cant do at this point is my Nav system. The screen in NOT touch either and was thinking about getting one???? I dont know the differance between mone and a touch screen and how well it works. (Mine NOT a touch screen tho)
Another problem I dont like is using a cordless mouse and 2 different remotes with my system (wireless mouse, main remote and the DVD remote.)

the opus will be pretty close to what you have now, but it hooks directly up to the battery. ITS NICE nicest one available, it will keep your pc from restarting when turning your engine over, atomatically starts it up when you to turn your ignition on and will auto shut it off also. Aprox $180-$190.

You can probably add a touch screen kit to your screen if it is 7" there is one available at www.digitalww.com, also if you want to keep your exisiting screen and the quality isnt as good as youd like you can buy a VGA kit also available at digitalww that will definately improve the quality of your display. check these places out for your screen needs www.digitalww.com, www,dscustoms.com. Touchscreen are awesome! Hopefully this should get you goin in the right direction

How would a touch screen work with my current 7" screen? My pic comes in great! Only problem I see is the text next to the icons. (running XP)

My screen runs off my pioneer AVM-p9000
(I cant run my screen w/o it)

Also, you say it will aoto start and auto shutdown my carputer when I turn on/off my computer. Is it doing a hard shotdown? (Just cuts the power) or auto shutdown?

Also, one other question, what good is a touch screen? I run windows Media player, Could I just touch the screen to goto the next track? What would it do for me?

Its just a panel that fits over your screen. It Is independent pretty much other than its over the screen. just install it over your screen (no need to mess with your existing screens electronics) and plug the USB cable in and power and you have a touvhscreen. Its about $95 i think.

When you turn your key it will act as if you pressed the power button your computer, when you turn the ignition off it will send a signal to the computer telling it to shutdown, then after about 10 mins (if the computer hasnt shutdown already for some reason) it will automatically cut power.

I think touchscreen is the best! No need for a mouse, you can touch the play buttons, stop next, everything else you can do with a mouse all while driving. plus its much cooler!

Sounds like you have a pretty tight system.

O shi! It sounds like something I need Bad!!!!! I hear about people using them (from here in the forums) but where can I get pics of what they look like? (on top on my screen) My 7" display hides itself (see above) would this still work?

Also, if this is the case, I guess I could sell my 6 disk DVD player (my carputer has a DVD cd rom) I could also sell my T.V. turner, as well as my Nav system?

I see other have built a nav system into their carputer? I am looking into seeing how this was done.

WOW, 100 questions just came to my head. Would I have to take apart my current LCD to install a touch screen?

Also, I see other working with a VGA touch screen? Whats the differance?

A VGA touchscreen would be the whole shebang, basically a mini computer monitor with built in touchscreen. (this would completely replace your screen)
