Update!.. The New version of XBMC ROCKS!.. now i have a startup script that automates the following:

1> Startup, play an intro MP3
2> Loads a random playlist
3> Shuffles the playlist
4> starts a song on the playlist.

I know this is just childs play for anyone with a PC, but for us with an XBOX setup, it'd somewhat of a pain since we have to learn Python scripting to do it

More info found here:

More to come!

That's a very interesting idea to use an Xbox as a carputer.

Nice job! I was thinking of doing the same thing for my car before I opted for a carputer. I'm curious, how are you controlling the volume since you are not using a headunit?

Is that some sort of gooseneck you have attached to the screen? How's that working for you? Where did you get it?

actually, i have an extra xbox and was thinking of doing the same thing. however, i am a big fan of wardriving, and not enough stuff to pull it off with an Xbox. plus i don't exactly have all the room in the world (in a 2dr Honda Civic) so the laptop is doing what i need well.

love your setup though:-)

Thanks! i'm using my 1/2din EQ in my dash to adjust the volume for the xbox. So-far it has worked out great! It has 2 inputs so i'm able to switch between my head-unit, and xbox with ease!

I picked up the gooseneck off of ebay for 20$ or so, and had to modify it a bit to work with my screen. I can add some more pictures of exactly how i modified the gooseneck if you're interested--just let me know!

The main reason i ended up going with a xbox, was due to the beautifuly polished Xbox Media Center application that it enabled me to use! There is another project that is porting this media center over to the PC platform as well. But you are right, Wardriving is not an option for the xbox yet

yea i never saw this, nice job,, my initial idea a year ago was to install an xbox,, after mos of research and all the things i wanted to add in i figured id go the extra step and use a PC. I had Far more pros for a pc than the box

PC

GPS
OBDII
Touchscreen
were the MAIN points as apposed to

XB

5 seconds to load
Hard shut down
Cheaper
Play XB Games

The PC pros outweighed the XB's for my wants/needs. but cwell to see someone did it so long ago and still has it workin.. Looks nice

do you have any noise from the alternater when using the inverter to change from DC to AC back to DC?

like fuzz or hum in the music and picture?

cause i am just about to do this but was thinking of using this

http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=476

as the input power

but i if i can save money with no quality loss, well, rock on.

I do tend to have a slight humm in the audio system at low volumes--tho the video is fine. It's definitly worth a shot, but i haven't tried it myself--would be interesting tos ee your results.

The only downside would be that you appear to be stuck with only 12v power with that PSU.. (i typically pull my box in/out of my car regularly).

For remotely powering up i went with this choice:

Good luck
