Talking Carputer for Infiniti G35 Coupe

Thanks to everone. I have been lurking and gathering my plan and components. here is the finished product
OK, alist of parts
1
7in LCD bare touch screen kit from Digitalww.com $380 (made screen enclosure by buying aluminium picture frame pieces from local picture frame shop and cutting them to fit the screen perfectly so teh screen would fit into the cubby, I had to cut out the bottem of the cubby to fit the screen in. Everything fits perfectly and I can close the cubby door all the way. At first I planned on putting a motorized screen in, but there is just not enough room that I could find. The screen is held inplace by a small bungie cord mounted to the screen and to the inside of the cubby. the screen is very secure, yet is still easy to fold back into the cubby. the touch screen connects to the CPU by standard USB, the computer treats the touchscreen like a mouse.
2
The case is a Iwill Ice Cube which comes with motherboard,Lan Audio, Video and 4USB 2.0 ports $250
Added a Geforce 5200 AGP video for $90, I like to play games and A pentium 4 2.4 Ghz cpu $160 pluse 512MB RAM $90
3
Storix USB 2.0 slim 8x DVD\CD-RW drive for glove compartment $100. I also put a 4 port USB hub in the Glove compartment.
4
Street Atlas 2004 with USB antenna mounted in rear deck for GPS $125
5
150 Watt Opus DC to DC power supply to replace Iwill Ice Cube AC power supply. This power suppy has a shutdown controler that puts your system into standby when car is turned off and powers up system when car is turned on $200
6
For internet I can use my T720 cel phone hooked into the usb hub for wireless internet(slow) I also have a netgear 802.11b wire less network adapter for near home, office or starbucks.

I run WinXP Pro as an operating system. im still tweeking the interface and teh programs, but everthing works great so far
almost forgot. the sound goes through the tape adapter right now, actually sound pretty good. i plan on changing to the aux in that blitzsafe says will be ready this year

Hey car buddy

I was thinking about putting my USB hub where you put yours but Ive figured out a way to to run the hubs internal then just have 1 accessible port in the ash tray along with some buttons and switches for things

Just a thought, but you know its an on screen keyboard associated with windows xp. Thought it would be a good idea with your touch screen instead of using the wireless keyboard. If you go to run and type "osk" you will get the link. It would be like using a tablet pc. Just a thought
sorry if it came up somewhere else in the post.

Nice, and it seems you really like Bungee Cords.

Thanks for the interest, but this is an old posting, version 1.0 . Im on version 4.0 of my carputer project now. My original screen enclosure was made with a custom aluminium picture frame I had made at a local picture frame shop. Total cast for the frame about $20. Sorry I no longer have the frame or any pics of the original install.
Here is a Link to my latest install:
