'99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

Dunno if this post will get deleted or not since I am not going to put the pics directly into this thread. No time.

But if you want to check out my project, feel free to take a peek.

I'm using the EPIA-M10K. These pics are mainly there to showcase the screen install.

Cheers.

I didn't make my case. My case is a mini-itx case that is installed inside the center console below the arm rest. I didn't take any pictures because it's not that exciting to look at. Just a computer inside the armrest.

I can't remember the name of the paint, but I got it at Orchard Supply hardware. It's just regular old flat black spray paint. The trick is in the prep work.

I am curious: how did you manage to make the screen bezel. Did you use the factory-made bezel from the screen that you modded into the shape of the car components, or you made it out of available components?

its pretty impressive.

If you take a look at the original interior shot you can see that there is a bezel in the dash that surrounds the factory stereo and beneath it is 2 heater/ac vents.

What I did was cut the bezel out of the original Lilliput casing to use as a mount, and then ripped the vents out of the center factory Jeep bezel and did a bunch of other cutting to make room to fit the Lilliput in the center. I filled part of the vent holes (the part not being taken by the screen) by epoxying scrap plastic pieces in them, and then used bondo to make the shape I wanted.

I had to block the 2 vents under the dash, which is fine because there are still 3 left. I didn't need 5 vents in the front anyway. Now the air just blows harder out of the other 3. I'm happy with it. I'll take a computer in my car over 2 extra vents.

Shakes, talking about this made me remember the name of that paint. It is made by Rustoleum and is called "Custom Interiors". It's flat black. Any hardware store should carry it I would think.

[Edit]Sorry, the paint is called "Painter's Touch" by Rustoleum. I went to the hardware store and tried to find the same paint and I couldn't find Custom Interiors. Hehe. Couldn't find my own paint, lol. [/Edit]

Good times. Most people suggest using special paint made for car interiors as it doesn't crack as much. if I can't find any of that around here I'll try the rustoleum interior stuff you mentioned ... should be alot easier to find.

No Termite, I did most of the work myself. Teee heeee heeee. Nice try though.

Cracking in the paint shakes? Just don't put it on 1/4" thick and you should be fine.

oh one more question ... what kind of bondo did you use? I was at the depot the other day and thay had 3 different kinds: the normal auto body repair kind (red can), bondo with fiberglass shavings (blue can), and some Bondo Home Solutions All Purpose Putty

i got the home solutions all purpose stuff, as i thought it would fit my needs better than the body filler crap.

I have a jeep cherokee as well, but i dont think i could do without those vents. Here in Indiana it can get pretty cold in winter and pretty hot in summer. So i am lost at where i can install it....

I do have my computer in my arm rest as well though

Shakes,

I used the regular body bondo. There's nothing wrong with that stuff at all. It works quite well. Just make sure that prior to primering you wet sand it really good with 500 grit to get it smooth. No need for anything else. I've actually never used anything else.

Pogue1000, where is your screen then? As far as the vents go, heat is not a problem. The car still heats up plenty well. Like I said, it just blows harder out the other 3. I can't even tell the difference because I usually leave the heat on the floor so it doesn't blow into my face anyhow.

The A/C may be a different story in the summer. Don't know yet, but I think I'll be fine. It really is the best place to put the screen to make it look professional.

Otherwise, just get rid of the ashtray down below and put it down there. Hard to see and use though.
