Cool Peugeot 205 install with a portrait LCD (finally)

I havent been here in a long time, since I've been doing this for my final year project. See the site in my sig for a more detailed description and a day by day log book style account of the installation. There's absolutely tons of annotated installation pics on the site.

Here's a preview:

Car:
Peugeot 205

Stereo:
Headunitless - directly wired to amp

Computer:
Celeron 500Mhz CPU
Aaeon SBC-675 Embedded motherboard with onboard LCD controller
Sharp LQ104V1DG11 640x480 LCD screen in portrait mode
TDK CXA-0350 Inverter
12" Touchnote serial touchscreen overlay
M-Audio Sonica USB soundcard
Seaquest 30Gb Hard disk containing around 10,000 OGGs
64Mb RAM
Modified DC-DC PSU based on the Sproggy design

Let us know what you guys think.

How do movies look on it or do you not play movies? I def. love the concept as it's different and works. I'm all for that.

Ingenious!

Not the cleanest install, but your almost-completely-from-scratch fabrication and custom winamp skin more than make up for it.

I was going to use a printer cable in one of my projects recently, but i needed more than 25 connections. tracking down which wire is connected to each pin is a real pain in the ***.

Good job.

I can post in a day or so once I've given my dissertation in, since I'll have my life back then. As for media players and portrait, the default winamp 5 skin is OK at 480x640, but I like my Winamp skin more It should be ready for release soon.

I tried an MPEG to see how it looks, and it looks fine. There are always black borders at the top and bottom, but that's due to it being portrait.

Haha, your not the first one to say that. I'm eventually going to mount the whole PC base unit in the dash, so all that will be visible is the screen. I can't do it right now tho since I'm having cooling problems.

Believe it it or not, I've made that 25 core LCD cable THREE times, each time a tiny bit shorter, each time the picture getting slightly better. It all takes time tho, I've lost count of the hours I've put into this... and it's still not completely finished, but then that's half the fun.
