Just read your whole thread. Great Install!!! not only the CarPC but the whole center console, Dimm MIrror, thing is awsome (to say the least). I have a '00 Explorer, and since they're not that many installations posted here, I'll take as an example (and inspiration) your mods. Have a couple of questions/requests. Some link posted here are non working. So could you point me in te right direction as how to get the Dim Mirror setup. I think that is the simples mod of them...

Thanks

-------------------------- VERSION 2 -----------------------------

I have recently upgraded my carputer because the EPIA M10000 and laptop HDD just weren't fast enough for my liking.. This required me to scrap my mini plexi case and go mini atx (not micro atx). I ended up building a wood box and placing it directly behind my seat. Sure.. It's A LOT bigger but it is square and I can still sit things on top of it..

Carputer V2 Specs:

Biostar Geforce 6100-M7 Motherboard
AMD Sempron 64 2600
512MB PC2700
Seagate Barracuda 80GB SATA150
M2-ATX PSU
DVD/CDRW Slim
Xenarc TSV
Rikaline 6010 GPS,
Zonet ZEW2500P IEEE802.11b/g 54Mbps Wireless USB2.0
Zonet ZUB6111C USB 1.1 Bluetooth Dongle
MPX220 Cell Phone

Other changes since the original install are that I also molded the Xenarc into the radio bezel. This being the first time I have ever worked with bondo and crap it didn't come out GREAT but it did come out descent enough for me..

Some updated pictures:

How well does the mic work with the windows down, stereo up, etc?

I've thought about adding one to mine to control my custom software but am not sure how well it would pick up commands and haven't had a chance to try.

I only use the MIC for cell phone so when a call comes in / I make a call PhoCo pauses the music. As far as the windows being down.. I always roll them up. Even if I'm not using a mic and just have my cell phone to my ear. It's way harder to hear with the wind..

How did you connect your hfm-8 to your computer? Did you just solder on a 3.5 mm stereo connector? I have the same mic and can't decide if it would be workwhile to solder or rather to just use an adapter (if there is one).

the EATC, OHC, Auto Mirror, etc.

I first want to say your truck looks amazing. I have a question in reguards to what you called minor work, the over head console and the hvac controls. How much did it cost you to do this project?
I have been looking around and priceing out the parts you used and don't know if I am geting hosed or not. Also I am thinking about putting my radar detector built into the console any ideas on that

Thanks. Cost was minimal.. I'd say under $100 for both the EATC and the OHC. Got all the parts from a junk yard.. The EATC I would say was easier but took longer because of the wiring.. The overhead console I had to remove the entire headliner and do some cutting so was a bit nerve racking..

Great looking install! I really like the center console. I have a 98 Explorer and am thinking about swapping consoles. Do you have any measurements on the one you picked up? Was it an '03 as well? Thanks for the info!
