Hi Milo,
I really like your setup, good work! I particuarly like where the screen is mounted. Do you mind sending me some information relating to the screen and the process of installing it there?
I wouldn't mind putting a screen there in my VY:

Thanks for any info you can provide!
Damian.

Milo, congratulations on a great installation. I got a great deal on a 6 litre VZ Calais just before Christmas and have been spending a lot of time at MP3Car.com looking for ideas. I want an OEM look and your installation really nails it. I've been searching for a 6.5" screen and haven't been able to find one. Can you point me in the right direction?

Might be easier to do the 8" screen in the doubledin?

Do you guys plan on retaining the steering wheel button controls? I made a USB Interface for them, with multiple other IO (battery voltage in, acc in, headlight in, also integrates with car alarm to turn the pc on when i unlock the doors, etc). It also serves as a shutdown controller, and has an 6A 12v DC-DC regulator on the board for ripple free monitor power. (7-12v in , 12.01v constant out )

Rowan, that sounds like a pretty awsome bit of gear. Did you base your steering wheel button/USB interface design on something you found here, or is a clean sheet deisgn?

I've made two now, the first one was just the steering wheel buttons (analog in) and a few other (discrete/digital) inputs, the newest pcb's dc-dc psu is based on a design found here ( http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/power-supplies/82446-5v-12v-pol-anyone.html , just the 12v part - no 5v reg, although one could easily be added). The rest is clean sheet. The DC-DC PSU is turned on via a relay connected to the opus psu, or the pc power latching relays (or anything you want to connect it to).
The steering wheel buttons are pretty easy to do, since they're just different value resistors for each button. Apply (regulated) 5v to one side of the two wires, and you'll get back something like 1v, pressing different buttons will return different voltages - using an adc in the usb chip this gives values of 0 to 255. A thread in my frontend continuously queries the chip to detect button presses.

Hehe sorry! You're in Melb right? If you're bored one weekend, you can come check it out (if i'm bored too and sitting at home haha). If you eventually get a carpc up and runnin' , this'll come in handy. The buttons can be made to do a lot more than just Vol+/-, Mute, etc too, for example by using combinations hold down Next and press Vol+ will seek forward, Vol- will seek backwards in songs/video's, Mode will take toggle between GPS/Music or Video mode, or hold down mode and pressing mute will make the GPS/Video/Music visualisations screen fullscreen.

Completely off topic, but how are those Commodores? They're coming to the US as the Pontiac G8 and a may have to look at the V8 version.

PontiacGA, if you like full size sedans that go hard & handle well, they are fantastic. They are a fair bit heavier than the previous generation GTO that you would have seen but the extra weight is mainly due to the body stiffening. If Holden could get some more engineering development money & spend it getting 100kgs or so out of the car it would be world class.

hey mate sorry for late reply
The blue is just a LED swap, you just unsolder the LEDs in cluster and replace them with some Blue LEDs
