2005 Scion tC (Updated!)

Just getting started, but I think I'm doing pretty well.

2005 Scion tC

Stereo
AIWA CD Head Unit -- relocating to glovebox

Carputer
IBM T23 laptop in port replicator in trunk under mat, next to spare tire
Rewired power button, moving to dash
4 port USB self powered hub
7" Dynamix 706 touchscreen VGA (Link)
Garmin GPS18 USB using NRoute Software Link
MediaCar frontend using Brushed Metal Scion skin
Using a power inverter for now for the laptop

Notes
Was a little nervous about ripping my console apart, but I wound up not having to cut it apart barely at all. Removed the Scion radio door contraption and placed the LCD in it's headrest shroud. Cut off the bottom of the shroud so the top of the screen could be viewed through the existing hole in the console (didn't want to cut the hole bigger). Used picture hanging wire to secure screen to console (it's in there very very tight ) Going to gather the power button wires and probaby put them in some heatshrink tubing to make it easier to work with.

It's amazing what you can get done when you're bored and it's snowing like hell outside! Going to extend the wires for the headunit and stick it in the glovebox, hope to make some sort of housing for it... anyone know of a "universal" plastic housing that'd encase a double-din stock radio? Comments welcomed!

Good job...it looks like that screen was MADE to fit in there. It's such a tight fit, almost perfect! I did want to ask you, the picture hanging wire was one that I had, also, but I couldn't figure out how to make it hold the screen in. Did you just take it across the rear of the screen and tie it around something on the rear of the radio surround, or did you wrap it around the screen somehow? Does the screen have any play up and down or left and right at all? Thanks! Awesome install!

There were 4 screws that held the radio door/cover there and I wrapped the wire around the screws and tightened them into the holes, it basically tightened the wire as I tightened the screws, no play at all!

I now cast my vote for the Scion Tc for "easiest LCD installation that still looks good"

Amazing.

Good Deal. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I don't have anything like that on my dash, so I'll have to keep thinking about the best way to do it. Thanks anyways, though.

Got any closer pics of the wiring you did to the docking station? Am about to do the same thing to a T30 docking station and would like to know how to approach it.

I am in the planning stages of installing a touch panel in my tC and was wondering how easy it is to remove the dash. Is there a certain way i have to do it, or can i just put it straight off without breaking anything?

how do you like that Dynamix screen? I was just getting started with the purchasing portion of our show, and that price is very tempting. But how is it daylight, with DVD, native resolutions?

it's a momentary switch. I'll see if i can get pics for you when I get home. Basically you desolder the existing switch and I just soldered 4 wires to where the switch was soldered and connected 2 to one side of the momentary switch and 2 to the other.
