Reversing Sensors

Just added a reversing sensor kit with mini LCD screen. This compliments my IR colour reversing camera to give me a complete VISUAL & SENSUAL indication of whats behind.
You can just see the 0.6M reading on the mini LCD corresponding with the traffic cone in the camera view on the 7" Touchscreen.

Why did you take the third brake light out?

I didn't...it's a stainless steel cover. The word "Focus" now displays when I brake. Note the much sleeker rear wiper too.

The LinITX 7" touchscreen has two RCA inputs as well as one VGA. The camera is connected to one of the RCA inputs & the reversing light circuit. The camera powers up when reverse is selected, but unfortunately you have to select the input manually on the touchscreen. (one button press)
However, the latest version of the touchscreen, the LinITX Plus, does have an auto input select.
So if I were starting over again (or I was mega-rich £190) and purchased the latest version of the touchscreen, it would do exactly that.

Are you sure that linitx plus can switch screen to AV when it receive video signal and switch back to VGA when no AV there?

Yes it can. It doesn't use the video signal, it uses a 12volt sense which in this case would be the switched reversing light power.

Disaster results in Upgrade

A bit of good advice. NEVER try and remove a thunderbug from your Touchscreen I did and broke it
BUT, some good did come out of this disaster.
1) I purchased a new LinITX + touchscreen which means I can now select reverse gear and my reversing camera automatically displays an image on the monitor.
2) I didn't want to invalidate my new screen warranty by removing it from it's case, so I re-worked my facia incorporating the headrest frame into it, to take my screen.
Here is the result. Hope you like it.

I've just checked out you own Focus and that is pretty neat too. The facia design on my MkII Focus means that I am very short of room to get my screen in. As you can see from my project I had my first screen in the facia but that mean removing it from it's case, and until the warranty expires I don't want to do that (security sticker on the back) with this one. Hence the re-work.

Looking at your install; I have audio controls on the steering wheel so I go into the CD6000 CD Unit with an adapter via the remote cd changer socket. This allows me to control my audio via the steering wheel.

Hey thanks, ya I had a little more room to work with having a full double din opening. I still had to take my screen apart tho. Kind of scary voiding the warranty of the most expensive part of the whole thing.

I actually think the setup you have now looks as good or better than the previous one.

I wish I had the steering wheel controls, that would be really nice!

New Reversing Camera

Just replaced my old reversing camera which was slung from the bottom of my rear apron, with a new smaller profile Colour IR Camera which I have mounted in the tailgate key/lock hole.
To do this I have removed the lock barrel from the tailgate lock mechanism to allow room for the camera to fit. I very rarely used the key in this lock anyway because I have a release button on my keyfob and a second release button in the cab of the Focus. I hope you agree that this makes for a much neater look to the rear of the car.
Also, the new camera has a wider, panoramic view, and displays a "mirror image" which my old camera didn't do.
A couple of pics of the finished job:-

wizz I'm a big fan of your car and work
I want to do the same thing - except the last modifications you made to the display. I like everything to look stock - like ford made it you know.

When I'll start working on my project I may stress you with some questions.
Again good job!
