Just updated the CarPC.
Replaced the Epia M10K with a Commell LV-672 motherboard and a P4 3.2Mhz CPU. This also meant replacing the M1-ATX 90w PSU with the M2-ATX 160w PSU. For good measure and to keep up the general system speed, I also replaced the IDE 2.5" hard drive with a similar SATA model.
Hardest part was finding a 1U socket 775 heatsink & fan to fit in the very restricted space. In the end I chose a Thermaltake CL-P0187 model, which was very difficult to get hold of here in the UK, just about everyone was out of stock. As you can see from the pics I then had a hell of a job to do with the Dremmel to get it to fit. I had to do some creative sculpturing of the heatsink base to get it to clear three capacitors. Still, all's well that ends well.
The reason for this upgrade was to ensure I had enough processor and graphics power to take advantage of the increasingly graphical RoadRunner frontend I use.
This has speeded up boot and hibernation times ( as you can imagine ! ) and has allowed me to use transition screen effects, flash and the like in a meaningful way, for the first time.
