Man, that's a sweet install.
Sajid, can you please post some close-up pictures of the hinge setup from both sides, up, down, etc.
thanks

E39 OBC Functionality when Stock Head Unit is Removed
Does anyone know if the OBC functionality becomes lost or limited, when you remove the factory headunit from an E39 BMW?
I have a 2000 540i/6 with Business Upgraded Stereo (tape up front, changer in trunk, and DSP). I also have the high OBC display (longer one) in my cluster.
I am planning on removing the headunit and replacing it with a Pioneer AVIC-D1, double din dvd navigation system.
I have a custom bezel being made by SRCSTC and I am hoping that I don't lose the ability to check my RANGE (miles to empty) and some of the other useful OBC functionality.

nice
Awesome work! Love how the monitor was installed and the fact that the pc can remain the same temperature as the driver instead of burning up in the trunk.

djmickyg: Its a Super Nintendo Emulator and thats Super Mario World. I got the emulator and all 700 games off of a bit torrent website ( www.suprnova.org). It was all in one tidy little zip file.
Sajid hope you're still around... love your idea of pushing back the mid and tapedeck and putting the screen on hinges but I've heard that the entire dash had to be unscrewed to remove the metal frame holding the Mid and tape deck. Is this right or is there an easier way to remove the frame? Could you repost the pics showing the hinges/latches and how you pushed back and secured the mid and tapedeck? Thanks

I managed to remove the frame without unscerwing the entire thing and by loosening it instead, but it did take a lot of bending the dash, and potentially I could have broken it!
I would advise you do take it off, and it's not as hard as it seems, especailly after you do it once or twice. Just make sure you get all the screws, especially the ones inside the vents.
you also have the option of sticking the MID in the glove compartment, which is what I've done, and you can use a standard RJ45 cable to extend the wiriing.
