WTF was the mechanic looking for in your center console
Ideas: don't let mechanic go anywere near your interior

VERRRY nice install!! Too bad the mechanic did what he did. That's why I don't let anyone touch my car.

Very nice setup, very clean!!
Do you have trouble seeing the screen with the sun shining on it during the day with the top down? I have a 1995 Mazda Miata (MX-5) Conv. and I was worried about sunlight washing out the whole screen.

thanks... yeah the screen gets washed out pretty badly when the sun is behind you. you get familiar with the controls and your hand blocks the sun when you go to touch the screen so you get by I may eventually get the backlight upgrade from xenarc but i'll deal for now

sweet all around... beautiful car & install.... but I have a question...is the pioneer flip out dvd head unit still being used or are you just using the face for it's buttons? I seperated the display on my alpinedvd flip out unit & haven't seen it done anywere else... just wondering how you did yours....

it's just the faceplate. i hacked it apart and put micro switched behind the buttons. then i took the switches and wired them into an ipac keyboard emulator. from there you can map the buttons to different keystrokes and then assign them as hotkeys in centrafuse. not all that hard but it's still not 100% complete. i have to integrate the phidgets rotary encoder into it for volume control.

Hi Scott
Hey Scott, nice job
I have a 97 C5 that is my love and passion, would you help me with the car pc install? I would really appreciate any input
1. Do I need a head unit to run the sound from the computer?
2. How easy was the 12 volt power supply install to the ignition, it is dependable to turn your computer on and off?
3.How did you modify the dashcover, I noticed you lowered the ac controller?
4. I have a 12 in touchscreen that is awesome, but it seems a lil big, can you easily see the screen on a 7 inch? is the touchscreen reliable or do you have to tap it a few time?
Thank you
RobbyC5

Hi Scottfx (and RobbyC5), just picked up a 98 C5 and was very impressed with the project. My project is just getting off the ground, so far xenarc 7" touchscreen, with a Epia mini ITX system with GPS, wifi, etc etc, I am installing it this weekend. Only thing missing is the Xenarc is going to be mounted with a proclip, I would love to find a fabricator to mod my dash to fit the xenarc.
Robby in regards to the power, the corvette conveniently has a power, ignition and ground for a cb/aftermarket stuff coming right out of the fuse box, makes like quite a bit easier. Just pull up the rugs on the passenger side, and on top of the silver box to the left of the fusebox if you dig around you will find 3 wires, black, red and orange which are ground, constant power, and ignition power respectively.
Will post pics when I get done, I think we have our own club within a club here, lol.
Rick

BTW Scott do you have any corvette logo stuff for the frontends? I see you are using centrafuse, is that your first choice? Still deciding on what frontend to use.
