That is one absolutely sexy install!
How are you liking the line driver? Does it make a big difference?

actually this is a really old install, it has gone through a few revisions. I noticed a huge improvement using the x-over/linedriver over just the sb live 5.1. Since then I have gone to the Alpine pxa-h701 and i recently sold that in favor of an echo gina 3g sound card and zapco crossover. Also pretty much every component you see there besides the computer and tweeters has been swapped out. I should have another install thread in about a month.

Hurry up! =)
I'm looking forward to hearing about the Gina soundcard you're using, you mentioned it had 5+v preouts in another thread. My install is a do-over at the moment, as I hit a bump at some point my current sound card is pushing daisies. Sound Blaster makes me grind my teeth, so an alternative would be great.
I do hope the crossover isn't necessary as I don't feel like dropping money on it after a $300 soundcard.

the x-over may not be necessary depending on your amps. the amps for my front speakers have no internal x-overs (less components, less cost, less noise) If i had used the card with either of my old amps i wouldnt have needed a crossover.

well if you research on harddrives they'll tell you to get a laptop harddrive and mount it vertically. so what i did was got a regular 3.5" hrd and mounted it flat...err...wait that isn't supposed to work right? well it works fine for me and i am having two bent rims fixed next week that didn't do nearly as well as that 'fragile' hard drive.
i did mount it solidly to the amp rack but the amp rack is just sitting on the carpet. I think that is what is the key to my install being so reliable. The amp rack has a bit of dampening and the mass of it stops oscilations which ruin hard drives quicker then the bumps in the night.

really nice work. my dad has a z06 and he wanted to get a gps unit so i showed him this tread. He is really interested in doing it but he was wondering if it is possible to remove the head unit or if it has to be moved elsewhere in the car, he was told that it had to stay in the car. Also i was wondering if you still had pics of the install that you could send me? And how did you hook the sound card into the speakers? Was it all done through an externmal amp or did you hook it up directly to the existing wires? If you do still have any install pics and don't mind emailing them to me, my email address is burtonbalance@gmail.com.

2001 C5 Convertible
Scott, great install. I followed your thread over to the Corvette Forum and it seems you do quite a bit of mods on your C5. Seeing the thread on altering the center console gave me new hope.
I have been working on a PC for my '01 C5 convertible for about a year, too little time and lack of confidence in my ability not to screw up a beautiful car, but I am finally about to get it in the car. I was thinking of putting it in the center cargo hold since it will get it out of the way. The factory CD Changer goes there, but I am a little worried about heat. The transmission seems to heat it up down there. Do you think some shielding and a fan in the conver will work?
1. Curious, any problems with closing your top with the computer sitting there? I had origanlly considered putting mine behind the "waterfall".
2. I am trying to decide between replacing the stock h/u and putting a hide away screen in the dash, or mounting a Lilliput 7" on a flexible arm off the transmision trunk (should have been off the floor but 18" wasn't enough to get it high enough to clear the parking brake). I will post some pictures once I get started again (all I have now are the ones of the computer itself)!
