VW Golf MKIV - Update with flush screen
Hey guys and gals...
heres the car firstly,
been working on this for the last month and its finally installed
its a 1.3GHz AMD Athlon, a 7" LinITX touchscreen, a 6 channel Infinity Amp, and Alpine components
heres a few build photos followed by the finished project
this is with old system ripped out and boot pulled apart, by this point all the cables are in the car (no pics of that boring process)
my carpenter step-father helped me build the boot
here is the screen bezel fixed in place with epoxy resin (araldite)
here is the screen bezel bulked out with P40 fibreglass filler
no pics with the P38 filler in place (too busy!)
and this is installed
not perfect but it'll do me while i get another bezel and try again
hope you enjoyed.
any question, post away!

nice install, what's up with that pci sound card though? why not go through the mobo sound and not have some huge card sticking off that can snap off?

cheers guys, just holding it down for the UK side!
mobo sound card doesn't work...believe me i'd love it cos its 6 channel as well
i'm gonna sort something to hold it more securely but also you gotta realise there's nothing in there to move and snap it off

How have you got your sound card 'mounted'. Those things can move around alot unless they are held in place.

Nice install - couple of questions
Couple of questions for you as I am just about to fit my Pc into a Mk IV golf here in the UK also. Firstly what thickness of MDF did you use and where did you get the cloth covering from?

shotty...the sound card isn't held down at the mo. lookingb at getting an audigy zs or m-audio revolution and then i'll probably sort something a little more permanent. but it hasn't moved yet thankfully
wolfie...we used 12mm all round which gave it the rigidity and strength it needs. its autoleads box carpet from halfords. i used 2 rolls at £25 each, check out ebay in case you can get bit cheaper. its glued down with spray on glue

yeah its been fine, better than fine in fact. i can't believe how well a standard 3.5" drive is doing in a car thats lowered 35mm
it just restarted itself on the journey home but it wasn't cos of a bumpy road...not sure of the cause

Change soundcard for cmi 6 channel version for about 10ukp, then use zoltrix drivers for it, the old ones seem to work better than the new cmi ones. (better still if ini file hacked to leave all inputs enabled)
Its cheap but considering its going to be playing mp3's etc it wont let the sound quality down.
And that boot/trunk looks great!
