TFT (AND) VGA. TFT is thin film transistor and it's smoother and better looking than the older style LCD's. VGA is the connector which is what PC uses. Alti's screen is no longer made (I think), but Zenarc makes a 10.4" for around $550 and Lilliput makes one also for around $300.

What is the difference between the $500 and $300 dollar 10.4" TFT screens? Would it be worth paying the extra $200 for the more expensive screen?

Quite a few folks have the zenarc and they are supposed to be good, but very few have the Lilliput. A lot of folks have the smaller 7" Lilli and really like them, so the bigger one is also probably real good, but pretty rare. I may just order both, compare and then send back the lesser one. That will be in a couple of weeks though.

screen fits very nicely

one question though, and I'm not sure if someone else already asked it, but ar eyou planning on doing the screen justice and integrating the rest of the project any more? The USB antenna and GPS antenna just strung out on the back deck are completely opposite of what I would expect with a screen integrated so nicely.

@red
alot has changed since this thread started, I did away with the wood computer case in favor of an ideq (same as a shuttle) and it looks alot neater in the trunk, but is still not clean.

Personally it does not matter what the trunk looks like to me, I know it does for allot of other people, but i am more of the type of person that gets lost in the action of building somthing that never really sees completion. Thats all i need to be happy. The interior of the car is clean (other then said wires on the trunk lid) and for me that is enough as i dont plan on putting it out as any type of show car. Perhapes next time I have my drill handy I will drill a few holes thought the deck lid for the wires so they dont have to cross the deck

I guess the difference is that the gps and usb wireless antennas are not perminate, (I have already changed to a globalstat 353 from the holux in the pics) where as the screen was a investment of research time and lots of work and stress, it is permenate, I dont think that i would be able to find a better screen to replace it with anytime soon, so thats why it gets the special finished treatment.

I hope that makes some sense (it does in my head ), sorry for my rambleing

@MrGee
I cant really offer to much advice on the screens in question as i have never owned either. there is a nice 10.2 16:9 made be xenarc that i would have bought if i was not able to obtain/build the allbrite. Personally I would probibly spend the extra on the xenarc, there seems to enough difference in realibility judging by the threads i read here, but again its just my opinion, both brands have there fans here.

Good luck with your project!

no! I understand completely!

I was just curious, I figured that either the install just wasn't done yet and this was temporary or that there was another reason for it, that's why i asked!

AJWatU is an unknown quantity at this point
sorry to wake this one up but I'm really interested in seeing your install and no pics come up just ? marks. I also have a 10.4 but am looking for ideas on how to install it and make it look clean. currently I have it hooked to a bracket that slides into the open half din above my cd player this useful because if i'm in a bad area I can remove it and put in the trunk. but would like something a little cleaner looking
