The volume knob

In place of the useless cigar lighter, i am planning to place the volume knob.
I'm using a mouse PBC (thanks to Silencery who shipped it here in italy) and a rotary encoder for the hardware, Girder for the software, a bit of wood for the mounting and a Pepsi bottle cap for the knob!!!

Will post some pic of the result asap.

GPS Antenna

I have a problem with the GPS antenna...
Initially I have bought the BU-303 USB receiver. But driving in little streets of big italian towns (like Florence) the number of sats dramatically falls to 3/4 and the receiver loses signal...
So i bought an Axiom Sandpiper II and an Hirschmann roof mount antenna... I am testing them, but till now i never received more than 7 channels... Axiom receiver works quite well even if only 4 channels are detected, while BU-303 needs at least 6 channels to work, but I'm not going to drill my roof if I haven't at least 10 channels on my ******* receiver...

Any suggestion?

Looking around seems like the Axiom Sandpiper II sucks!
What about the Garmin GPS 15L?

interesting, but I would possibly use it as a reversing monitor.

or stick a couple in the doors, and a camera each and do away with the wing mirrors

Dan

Still needs a bit of work on the bezel, but it's getting there.

Looks good. I actually just moved mine up top too, I couldn't stand looking at it down the bottom. I found the xenarc case fits perfectly in there, and just angled it up. It might not be the most custom looking thing, but the angle is PERFECT and it is so much more useful...

yes, but it's not usually direct sunlight.

it's either reflected off the leather centre armrest, or my shirt if it is a light colour.

Damn nice. I'm not sure if i love the location of the screen or hate it.
It seems like its pretty low and you have to move your eyes alot of the road to see it. But in other hand; It look damn cool ;D
