2005 G35 Coupe Pentium M CarPC

Well, I closed my worklog thread and started this one, since it is mostly done. The worklog thread is located here

First, lets start off with the car:

2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT

Stock, it has 298 horsepower from a 3.5 liter V6 to a 6 speed manual transmission.

Here are the modifications I have done so far:

Engine

Crawford high flow cats, HKS Ti True Dual exhaust, free flow intake, MotorDyne MREV modified upper plenum, UR underdrive pulley, GordGee Grounding Gear, JWT Oil Cooler, JWT Oil Pan Spacer (adds 1 quart capacity); approx 330-340 actual HP (haven't dynoed it yet)

Suspension

Stillen Adjustable Sway bars with urethane bearings, GT Spec Rear Tie Brace, Tein Hood Shocks (hold the hood up)

Interior

Nismo Short Shifter, Valentine 1 radar detector, Forged Internals aluminum bullet shift knob, Redline Goods custom leather shifter and ebrake boots, Blitz R-Vit MultiMeter

Audio

Stock head unit, Phatbox 40gB mp3 player, lots of dynamat over everything

Front Speakers: Boston Acoustic Z6 components, bi-amped with a JL Audio 450/4

Rear Speakers: Polk/Momo db650 coax 6500 amped with a JL Audio e2150

Subwoofer: JL Audio 10w6v2 in custom box amped by a JL Audio 500/1

Other: 0/1 gauge wire from battery to block, Streetwires fused power/ground distro block, 4 gauge wire from block to amps, AudioControl LC8 as LOC in order to even out frequency response, dynamat all around, 1.2 Farad Tsunami capacitor

And now, for the part that most members of this board are interested in, the CarPC setup:

LV-673 motherboard
Pentium-M 2.26 GHZ
2 sticks of 512 mb for a total of 1 gB
Ati X300 PCI-X video card w 256 mB
Senao EMP-8602 400mW/26dBm mini-PCI 802.11 a/b/g wireless card
Hitachi 7k100 7200 rpm 100 gB 2.5" HD
Generic slot-load DVD-ROM
DSX12VD (also known as DSX Power Sequencer, a DC-DC power supply)

Seperately, in the glove box, the following:

D-Link 7 Port USB Hub
DVD Drive

The screen is the Digital Wheelz 7", which is a Xenarc 7" TSV (touch screen) modified for use in a G35.

For antennas, I have
3 dbI Mobile Mini Antenna, centered on 2.4 ghZ (for 802.11 b/g)
BU-353 USB GPS Antenna

For input, I have the touchscreen, of course, and the following:
Think Outside StowAway foldable Bluetooth keyboard
MS Wireless USB Laser mini-mouse

For Computer Audio, I have:
Creative USB Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX
3 Rolls Audio mixers (they take the audio from the head unit, and mix it with the audio from the Audigy)

So, I can have the head unit playing at the same time as I hear navigation from the computer. Or, I can turn off the head unit and listen to 4.1 DVD movies, my MP3 collection, or whatever other computer audio I want.

Finally, some pictures; these first ones are of the car, then the next post will be of the audio setup, and then the CarPC pics.

Enjoy, and feel free to ask questions!
Dave

Ok, here is the pictures of the audio setup. While I am not a show go-er, or a competitor or anything like that, I did try and dress it all up to look nice.

So, here they are; in order, they are:

1. Audio equipment (some of it) waiting to be installed
2. Trunk with the false floor and plexiglass over it
3. Trunk with false floor removed
4. The subwoofer box with the JL 10w6v2 sub
5. The empty trunk to show that I lost no trunk space except for the subwoofer. Of course, all the audio equipment is where my spare tire used to be.

Ok, now for the CarPC pics. These first five will be of the PC itself. The case is custom made of plexiglass, and then wrapped in wire mesh in an attempt to cut off some of the RF interference I was creating with my radio reception. Unfortunately, that failed, but I left the wire mesh on it because I thought it looked cool.

Here is the Digital Wheelz screen, from off, to bootskin, to desktop to FrodoPlayer custom Brushed Aluminum skin. The pics are a bit blurry because I used no flash, which is a longer exposure, and my hands are a bit shaky...

And this one is some random pictures:

1st is the antennas on the back dash, with a small chapstick tube to show relative size.

2nd is the cubby where the screen folds down into, and also the R-Vit multi meter gauge I have

3rd is a view of the soft leather shifter and e-brake boots (non-standard on a G, don't know why) from www.Redlinegoods.com I really recommend these, well worth the money

4th is all the dynamat I put throughout the trunk. The doors and other parts are similiar. I'm sure I added a bunch of weight with the dynamat, but well worth it!

Because I put that in about 1 year before I even thought about a carPC. It was one of the first things I bought for my audio system, less than a month after I bought the G.

Now, I don't want to get rid of it; on the other hand, you are right, it doesn't serve much purpose.

No sweat; it seems kind of redundant. On the other hand, for those short, 2-3 minute drives, you can get music right away, don't have to wait for the PC to boot. Now I just need to optimize the boot load times, and then I won't have to even bother with that...

Thanks for the compliments, by the way!

Dave

Awesome looking install. Slightly offtopic but, how does the g35 coupe compare with the 350z? I heard they are basically the same just the g35 is alot prettier.

Same engine, same drivetrain, same suspension (350Z springs are a slight bit stiffer, not much)

G35 has 2 backseats, 350Z has none.

Looks are subjective, but I think the G is better looking.

Interior accomodations are nicer on the G, but the G also weighs a little bit more.

performance and platform wise they are pretty much identical. however that's where it stops. if you have ever seen the interior of a 350z vs. a G35 (or any Infiniti car for that matter), it's not even comparable.

anyone who says the g35c is a 350z with a backseat is a moron
