Project Media-Z - 99 Camaro Z28

Hello all!
Well, I finally got around to putting some pics of my setup in this forum...
I've had this system running in the car for over a year now, but have been working on cleaning up the details here and there...
In any case, the car is a 1999 Camaro Z28, leather seats, t-tops, etc....

---
The Audio System is all Alpine -
Amp: MRV-540
Speakers: sp177a's (2 sets)
Sub and Mono amp soon to come...
---
The PC: nLite XP install, <30secs to boot (Very proud of that!) (edit: lol... I caught it!)
Motherboard: Shuttle MN31/N
CPU: Athlon XP 2200
Ram: 512mb DDR 400
Monitor: Xenarc 700TS - 7in. Touchscreen VGA.
DVD: Firewire slim-dvd rom under the drivers side seat...
802.11g: Netgear WG311 v2 + External antenna
GPS: BU-303 GPS (iGuidance & Destinator 2)
EGPRS via bluetooth through whatever phone I carry that day! (See avatar for a few...)
PSU: Opus 150W, primed, painted and textured to match the Alpine...

note: The mobo & CPU have been upgraded! See a few posts down!

Old Pc...

After two radio bezels, and 5-6 retries....

The external antenna --

---

My FrontEnd of choice is RoadRunner with the Liquid Smoke skin... (awesome stuff, btw)

There it is! Let me know what you think....
Check back soon for the updated motherboard and processor... and maybe a few more pics

Damn Xp with its anoyingly fast boot times, good thing you were able to get it over the 30 second.

But seriously nice looking install and car.

I actually took an old atx case, and cut a section to match the motherboard size... It worked out really well! I didn't have to worry about standoffs, or PCI card support...

Nothin' too special, typical antenna cable... It is a magnet mount antenna, and there is a slight gap right there that is perfect for cable routing... The cable goes in between the rear hatch and the seal, but at a point in which there won't be any issues from rain and such.

lol... I caught it... I actually posted this right before running out the door, so I didn't get a chance to proof read it....

Thanks!

I actually just replaced the HD, due to my 60gb crashing...
I'm in the middle of trying to find a better way to mount.
When I do, I'll throw some more pics up...

Well, I finally found some time to take a few new pics of the system!

First off, my new Turion MT-32 w/Zalman 7000 alcu heatsink & Gigabyte k8n51gmf. This setup is darn fast, uses less power that my xp2200 setup, has firewire, 8 usb ports, and 6 audio ports.(Allowing 5.1 surround, while still having mic, and line in available for use)
Overall I am very happy with the way things have worked out.

A better pic of the Opus150:

I installed a multicard reader. I have the mic, and headphone jack routed to the mic in and line in on the PC... Uses for this are obvious.... (External FM, phone stuff, etc...)
Still in progress of cleaning up the install... but here's a shot..

And, I also got around to finishing my fiberglass pc/amp cover.
Basically, I made a mold (wood, wire, and some old paper envelopes , covered it in fiberglass, sanded the heck out of it, cut some holes, and covered it in black carpet... and viola! (Granted, I went through 2 molds, and 3 attempts at creating the cover... but hey, it's only time, right? )

The holes were on each side... On the drivers side, I installed a fan to pull in the cooler air...

The hole on the passenger side to to expel the air... works quite well, I might add!

===
For prior comments... (in other threads as well) Here is the mounting of my GPS receiver, underneath my rear bumper. Works just as well here, as it did on my front dash!

and, my faithful keyboard!

Any Questions/Comments/Suggestions are welcome!!!
What do you guys think??

Hey man, it looks nice. I was going to rip on you about your PC, etc, exposed on the back untli I saw your cover. There's so little room in those camaros, the cover was a great idea! Is there anything more clever you can do with the external FM antenna?

nice install. i had a similar problem with hard dying. i think my issue was heat so a simple fan dedicated to taking hot air off the hd is my solution. Really its impossible to isolate all the problems of hard drives but its always worth a shot.

Yea, the exposed PC has bothered me quite a bit... One nice thing about the cover, is that I can now toss stuff on top of it, and not break/scratch anything!

Are you talking about the WiFi antenna? I have actually moved it to a different location... It is now sitting inside the passenger side, rear fender... works pretty well..

Hi,
If I may ask how'd you make that radio benzel. I am in the process of doing that same thing and have been wondering how I am going to get that to look nice.

Thanks,

Steve

RedGTiVR6 has a spectacular aura aboutRedGTiVR6 has a spectacular aura aboutRedGTiVR6 has a spectacular aura about
black98z - you need to get a bit more familiar with this forum first: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/fabrication/

second you need to learn how to fabricate on the most basic of levels, which means using bondo.

VERY NICE

I'll be putting a carputer in my 3rd gen camaro as soon as I finish paying for it. well not as soon as I finish paying for for but when its in storage through winter i'll be fixing it up.

as for the hard drive and crap I will be putting a regular hard drive in it because I know that hard drives will work ok in rocky conditions because I work out on ocean and we have computers on there with regular hard drives and they work for a long time in rough conditions.
