Installing the Neo Car Audio System into a 2006 Toyota Matrix.
I know nothing about cars or audio systems, This is my first attempt trying to install the Neo Car Audio System. I will walk you through what I did. There are some things that I learned from my experience that really made it easier to install and will hopefully help you. I first had a very hard time finding anyone that would or could install my Ipod mini directly into my stock audio system, the FM modulaters sounded awful. I went to many car stereo stores in and around Seattle and asked toyota dealers as well with no luck. I found two systems on-line. One was Ipod2go and the other was the Neo. I chose the Neo because they told me it would work with my stock 6-disk CD player.
This installation of the Neo Car Audio System ($199) took approximately one hour and I couldn’t be happier with the results or price.
First step: Unhook the Battery. I don’t really know if you really need to do this but I read that I should do it and it makes sense.

Second Step: No tools are necessary here. With your fingers lift the plastic panel off starting at the bottom by the heat controls. Tip the panel up and pull down gently to unhook panel completely.There will be four cables attached to panel. I suggest removing them from the panel. There are little clips that hold in the cables so figure out how to push the clips and take out the cables that power the clock, hazard lights, defrost/AC, and recycling air buttons.
Third Step: Unscrew the one screw with a philips head screwdriver. I used a 10mm Ratchet thing to unscrew the easy to reach screw thing and two hard to reach screws deeper in the console.
Step 4: After all the screws are out start to wiggle the unit out. You will notice that it is hard to side out the radio smoothly because of a white plastic thing that attaches some cables to the radio frame one the left side. You will need to squeeze the white thing to slide it out of the radio frame which isn’t too easy. Now pull the radio out farther and detach the two radio cables from the back.
Step 5: now that you have detached all the cables it should look like this. Lay everything out and and figure out where the cables go.
Step 6: Start plugging things in. It was a little hard for me to figure some things out. The black ends plug into the black thing and the white end plugs into the white thing. Everything else plugs into easy to figure out places.
Step 7: Place the Neo back down under where the radio will sit and thread the ipod adaptor down toward the passengers feet then pass it up into the glove compartment. Slide the radio back making sure to plug in the radio, attach that annoying white plastic piece. Screw in the the two really had to screw in screws and then the two easy to screws.
Step 8: Plug the four panel cables and slide it back in starting with the top and working your way down.
Step 9: Reattach the battery
Step 10: Start playing your ipod and plug it into the ipod cord and press the disc button. You will hear your ipod playing and it sounds great. The ipod is charging! If you switch to FM or the CD player the ipod shuts off. My radio even displays the song and artis. I am able to control the Ipod from the stock radio controls. If you don’t llike controling the ipod from the radio you can use the ipod itself. I can’t say enough good things about my esperience and results. Good Luck.
