Exactly, so why does it matter. Its rare people cold boot. CFs slow but not that slow, at least on my system. So far CF is one of the most feature rich front ends. Its easy to use, and works most of the time out of the box for newbies. CF3 will have even more features, so RR better watch out, lol. I mean its just like a video game (Xbox360) When I put in a game that hasn't had add-ons added, the game loads fast, but once I put add ons, like new music, car designs and what not, the game takes a bit longer to load. I think of CF the same way. All that matters to be is that once it does get going, its going, lol

Wow! I'm surprised that the differences in media scan times are so wide. CF is almost 5x slower than RevFE/OpenMobile at indexing!
Hibernation doesn't solve the fact that scan times in CF2, SD and RR are much slower than RevFE and OpenMobile. I would also throw in that you do eventually have to reboot. After all, if you are running windows, rebooting is the solution to 90% of issues:

RR is still a giant hack job of a front end written in a language thats been dead for 10+ years.... Centrafuse is a giant incredibly bloated and sluggish front end....are we done yet?

kev:
Look at the software table I put in the analysis section - I think thats the main reason for the huge difference in times. Oh and I have to admit thats the first time i've seen a jet database in at least 5 years

Vaporware is a software product which doesn't really exist. All of the software apps in these tests do exist and are testable.
Futhermore, if it were a vaporware test, I'd submit that nGhost3 scan times for 500 songs is 0.5ms via the mediaDB.doAwesomeVaporwareScan() function. "Ya nghost is da fastset FE evar!"
Jet DB eh? MS Access wasn't known for it's speed, maybe that's why CF is so slow? SD is understandably slow because WMP usually tries to call up the RIAA to report every song in your db doesn't it? :P
In all seriousness, taglib is probably the fastest tag reader out there. That along with sqlite probably explain why RevFE and OpenMobile's times are so similar.

I was refering to the 2 posts above mine comparing CF3 (not available AFAIK) with DX4 skin (also not available).
Sorry if that wasn't clear. I'm enjoying the conversation so far, but not so much references to non existent/functional software.

And is why we now have a devoted dev team that has been putting large chucks of time to sort, organize, and improve its coding. Let 100's of people (most of which probably were not good coders) add/fix things in your source and lets see how much of "hacked" up souce you end up with...

The comment was to end the cf vs rr argument that was about to start up.....but anyway:
By hack job I didn't mean the coding itself-its actually pretty impressive it does what it can do given the huge limits of vb....i was referring to the way plugins are implemented. Alot of the plugins use external executables in a few cases quite a few of them to "hack together" the functionality they are trying to achieve.

I admire your efforts. If it were me (and I've done this three times now), as soon as my code seems like I'm having to hack to get things to work or to add features, that's usually the time I find it needs a redesign and rewrite. I'm not suggesting a rewrite, you can still end up with new code and better design if you re-factor enough. But nothing beats starting from scratch using better technologies with a better design when you have the time to do it. AFAIK, that's exactly what CF is doing with CF3.

Now, that is much better describing what you really meant to say. We have been stretching vb's limit probably for some time now. Yes, some of the plugins do, like for example my RRMedia plugin, uses two main exe's to do its job.

"RoadRunnerMM MediaInfo SQLite (external exe)"
Would like to point out that the sql exe is only used for the large data dumps to the db. all other db operations are done via dll
RRMedia does support external art (image in folder)
