HQCT-eA support

Hi Putput,
Don't let me get in the way of a beta for others. I've been busy too in the last two weeks (including a rather hastily-arranged trip to the US) and my own hacked-version of Diogenes program is working quite well (I'm saving the AF list to disk and this gives v.fast AF re-sync even if there is no AF data being received). However, once your DLL is available with eA support I'll do the integration with RR and swicth to CPCTuner.

Ok, my conclusion is that if the clock ends with a small dot '.' (pc time), the clock is correct.
If the clock does not ends with a small dot '.' (RDS time), the clock is one hour early, I think because of daylight saving.
Can anyone else can confirm this? (I must admit I could find only one station with RDS time in my area)
And another thing:
Sound/reception quality has been degraded since previous version: the stereo indicator keeps swithing on and off all the time, with the previous everything and the same station is OK. Is there any config switch related to this problem?
thanks,
/Me.

I'm too lazy to dig through this and all the other crazy forums focused on the HQCT.
Where is the current 'baseline' driver or whatever? I need to backport the new RDS features back into the Linux driver.
(oh yeah, I'm back...)

You can find all my HQCT software here, but I'm still working on a number of things like News, Traffic and AF. (Having lots of troubles in finding time for software development lately, my kid was in hospital for a week) In the latest beta (still containes a number of bugs and no eA support, guess that's why they call it a beta ) you can find an overview of received EON and AF data, look in the settings screen.

Great. I will look into your sources. I'm not too worried about News, Traffic, etc.. those aren't really used in my area. Self-centered... maybe, illogical... I wouldn't think so.

Luc, we all hope your son is feeling much better.
Anyone here know about how the HQCT actually gets tuned? I mean there seems to be the possiblity of more than one parameter invovled in the tuning in of a station. This I why I think this... When using the CPCTuner program...
At one point I had two buttons programmed for 98.3 MHz FM, one was very fuzzy and the other sounded great.
On the latest version, ver.48 I found that in order to get 770KHz AM I have to enter 760. All the frequencies are shifted up by 10 KHz, but when I was playing around I was able to get a button that says 770 and actually get 770 as well as a button that says 760 while it tunes 770 and all it still is tuning in stations 10KHz higher than the display , execpt on that one 770 button.
I am confused???

It's really confusing. The radio gives back a several data points. To tune to a frequency one must interpolate between these data points and then do a bunch of arithmetic. When I first wrote my driver, the Windows HQCT software did not properly use these values. Therefore, the software didn't work well on every HQCT unit. I thought this was fixed a while back (on the Windows side) so it shouldn't be an issue.
I don't know anything about CPCTuner.
But, as you can see, the radio needs more than a simple frequency in order to tune. People are trying to make a library for the HQCT because of this complexity.

Back in business (Slowly .. )
Hello there ,
Greetings from Belgium again (for as long as it exists )!
Just want to let you know that a new version is ready for testing. Yes I know, I've made some promises in the past but I will keep this one. You can find it on my download page. Don't be too hard on me if not everything is working as it should, I haven't had much time for testing lately. But please let me know if you encounter any problems/bugs. This version completely supports all HQCT_eA features.
Greetz,
Putput
PS When you start this version make sure that you open the settings window and press the default button and then the OK button. This will override my HQCT module parameters with your HQCT module parameters. This is important because each tuner has a different set of parameters and when these are wrong reception could be bad. I will change this in the next release so that it will automatically detect and replace faulty parameters.

Sorry for troubling you with my simple questions.
I have a HQCT-e module and was just trying to get it going.
I downloaded the CPCSuite into c:\CPCSuite and tried to run rrhqct.exe
I got "CPTTuner could not connect to HQCT module!"
"Error: HQCT module not found on USB bus! "
Have I missed something? I tried to find something on http://direct.xtronic.be/products/hq...io/hqct-e.html
but that site does not work properly.
My module operates on single 12V supply doesn't it?
Is there a driver I have to install?

Hi bes51659,
No need for a driver, the HQCT modules are HID devices that have native Windows support (like USB mouse, keyboard etc).
As far as I know (I'm not one of the hardware developers, you will have to ask Diogenes to be sure) the -e version needs only 12V.
Check (see picture) in your Computer Management that there is a device 'Car radio' in the HID devices list. If its not there you will have to check your wiring again. Also a simple trick is to disconnect power or the USB cable from the device and Windows should then sound ding-dong, when you reconnect it a few seconds later it should sound dong-ding. Then you know that the module is connected.
Once you are shure that the wiring is ok and Windows recognises the module the software should work.
Have you downloaded the latest build from my website? If so try an older version like build 42, I changed some stuff so that CPCTuner can detect what HQCT module type is connected in the latest build. It could be that there is still a bug in the connection routines that check the module type info, the -e version is the only module that I don't have here for test purposes. Perhaps someone else can confirm if the -e version works with the latest build or not?
CPCTuner doesn't support Vista for the moment, so when you are trying to use Vista this could also be the cause of the problem.
Success!

one step further
Hi putput and thanks for your thorough answer!
After powering off and on the module I did find a car-radio HID device in the HID list.
(I have only black and red connected to +12V. There is also orange blue and purple unconnected and a white wire loop. I've lost my wiring diagram and cannot download it from XTronic. Its gone from their site. But since I now can see the HID device I think I'm alright)
Problem remains.
I use WinXP pro, sp2.
The version I've downloaded from your site is (from readme file)
"CPCTuner"
"Version 0.1"
"Build 36, 14-12-2006"
(I will try more versions, obviously)
My thought was if there might be a conflict between other USB devices. Have you had people reporting such? I have quite a few.
1) DVD,
2) BT,
3) touchscreen,
4) OBDII port,
5) Creative soundcard,
6) a GPS receiver
7) the radio and
8) a Huawei E220 3G modem (which I specifically have had problems with)
From the pic, the BT devices are broadcom, the "hid compliant device" is standard system device, and the "hid compliant consumer control device" is microsoft. They all are "working".
Come to think of it I should off-cause disconnect everything but the radio...
Well, thanks to you Putput I've got a few things to try out still! I'll mail again if I get stuck.
Cheers, B-O

Hi putput
I have a little report.
It did not matter if I had only the HQCT connected to USB.
But the different software behaved differently. Maybe you are right that this is because I've got an (untested) HQCT-e module?
The RRHQCT original ver 2.0 - WORKING (I think)
CPCTuner 1.0.36
CPCTuner 1.0.41 does not start at all
CPCTuner 1.0.42 (splash says 41...)
CPCTuner 1.0.43 is the same
CPCTuner 1.1.1.50

Hello bes51659,
Great testing I must say. Strange that none of the versions detect the module connected. Because as I explained earlier, the older versions do not test for a specific HQCT device, any HQCT device will do. (Apparently not :-( )
But don't panic, download this little cmd line program and it will create a log file (use the latest build) in a .\Log folder. It’s called CPCLogdriver but it isn't a real driver, it’s just a small multi-threaded program that captures logging messages and writes these messages into a text file. Start CPCLogdriver first (double click on the .exe file), then start CPCTuner and you should see some messages in the command line screen. Now wait until the error messages pops up, click ok and that's it. Now close the log tool by pressing CTRL-C (when it has focus) or simply close the window. You should now see a newly created folder with a file inside, something like '20071121Log.dat'. Send this file to me via email (check my website for my email address) and I will have a look at it.
Again thank you very much for all your efforts, hopefully I can find a solution for you soon.
Regards,
Putput

Hello bes51659,
Could you please download the latest CPCTuner build again and check if there are any changes? I did some testing and discovered that there is still something wrong with the RR communications but it should work for your HQCT-e as a standalone app. I found a bug that was the probable cause for your connection troubles.
CU,
Putput

Hi P
I am just about to go to bed, but I had to test the new latest first. Same but different :-) I will have a better look tomorrow.
Cheers
