BUG Lilliput TC-1000 (VIA UniChrome) crashes while running 3d

I have a Lilliput TC-1000 here, based on the VIA Epia-TC motherboard (as far as I understand) with the CLE266 north bridge. Hence, it has the UniChrome IGP for graphics

I don't care how slow it runs, but it should not BSOD / reboot in 3d I tried about 10 different drivers. Some crash instantly, some show complete gargabe in 3d INSTANTLY. The best one I've found actually runs for a couple of minutes before locking up. Nevertheless, it always locks up.

Interestingly enough, I have turned off automatic restart on BSOD and it STILL reboots. This leads me to believe this could be a power supply issue. However, I doubt integrated graphics eats enough juice to cause this.

Overheating is not the issue. I just need basic stuff to run, such as Streetdeck in DX mode, as well as Google Earth.

Has anyone encountered this issue and overcame it successfully? So far I am disgusted at how slow and loud this thing is

I have such board in my car, and I agree that it's very sensitive to voltage drops. Since I installed dc-dc power supply (carnetix), my problems disappeared.

I cannot verify your problem with 3d modes though. I run Linux with xorg, and Mesa3D, and never had any problems with the chip itself. I never tried windows on this platform.

Thanks for your reply. Can you describe in more detail how your problem was manifesting itself? I.e. in what situation did it crash.

Ok, well this is what it looks like -

Lilliput TC-1000 problems in 3D - 1
You need to upgrade your Flash Player
- most current driver (froze 5 seconds after the end of the video)

Lilliput TC-1000 problems in 3D - 2
You need to upgrade your Flash Player
- best driver I was able to find (it still crashes towards the end there)

Sorry if I missed it:
1/ What is your distro, what does "uname -a" say?
2/ Can you somehow publish /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?
3/ What is in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
4/ What does "dmesg" say right after the boot into X windows ?

People discuss OpenChrome related things on viaarena.com a lot.
You may also check that.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear (although I did mention DirectX and Streetdeck). This is in Windows XP.

Sorry for misunderstanding, I just cross-read it. Sympthoms that you described are quite specific for VIA native Xorg driver (closed-source). Nothing new I would say - try Via arena, try drivers that come with Winddows originally, try updating BIOS, S3 utility settings ..

BTW: does it work on Linux with Openchrome (please do not try Via native, you'll mess it up)?
If Google Earth is behaving under Mandriva 7 (try USB stick distro http://www.mcnlive.org/) and Openchrome drivers
(drakx11 -> Graphic Card -> Openchrome) \, X is loading 3d extensions with no error (glx),
that it is Windows driver problem for sure. It may happen that you have drivers DLL versions collapse or something.
