does the street atlas delorme install drivers for gps reciever?

I can't get a gps fix with my LT 20 that came with 2007 street atlas. It worked fine when I had street atlas installed, but now on my car pc, I didn't install street atlast, just the delomre serial emulator and iguidance. very rarely, the gps will lock onto satellites but very rarely. (the reciever unit itself is in good location for reception)

does installing the 3 cd's of street atlas actually install a driver for the LT 20 so maybe I should install the software? (but in device manager under windows, it shows that it's a delorme usb.

I can't figure out if i Need a new gps reciever yet.

If it does occasionally lock on to a satellite, then the software must be detecting it somehow. I presume this is a USB device that requires a USB-serial bridge of some kind. If so, you should be able to find it in under the serial devices in device manager. Make a note of the port number and be sure it is configured correctly in iGuidance.

i'm running delorme serial emulator, and it almost never locks on at all. (it lets you monitor the the gps signal and says no fix.)

i do have port settings correct since the serial emulator lets you turn at least 3 on at same time.

thanks for the help though.

it's really weird because for the first couple of days, I could get the gps to lock on after windows startup, but to get Iguidance to lock on, i'd have to hover over the task tray showing the serial emulator, then in iguidance, it would turn green and lock on. (which was actually not that bad of a deal because when I press the volume buttons on my iphone skin of RR it would make my iguidance gps lock on since this is hovering over the serial emulator for GPS.

but now I get NO gps signal after windows startup.
I never installed delorme street atlas cd's on this copy of windows, so maybe there is a better driver for the USB gps reciever?

but i'm under the impression that usb gps recievers don't come with drivers because windows always installs it for them?> is this correct?

so maybe the usb extension cable or GPS reciever is broken.

I did close the garage door down on the usb cable extension it's on so maybe it's damaged?

MatrixPC is on a distinguished road
One of the CD (probably the 1st one), has a folder called utility or something similar which contains the driver (USB-Serial emulator). Install that. One of the installation process ask if you want to use the receiver with 3rd party software. Select Yes on that question. That will install the emulator. Otherwise, it will just installed the driver that only SA can understand.

the serial emulator i'm running is the current one from delorme. does that contain the main driver? I ask because I didn't install delorme cd's that came with the gps (they only say atlas on them)

so maybe I just don't have the right driver?
hope that is right, I will try to install via a usb flash drive.
thanks.....

but i did find some more info from other forums.

many usb gps recievers that need a lot of power like the LT 20 don't work well on usb extension cables. (which mine is on)

memory cards are like this too.

the newer gps recievers use less power.

im going to try to direct install the gps without the usb extension, but that means it wont reach the front winshield. do you think the back flat winshield of a truck cabin will be good enough even if this solves a power issue?

Heh-heh! Sounds like it was the extension cable. I was going to suggest that you try it without the cable and to also be sure to keep the GPS away from the screen. My Xenarc causes my GPS to lose the lock if it is too close (the PC also interferes with it). If I position it away from the screen I get solid locks and no problems.
