Winamp has a built in equalizer.
You probably won't find one with 30+ bands as software.
Using software as an equalizer should be avoided.

You will have MUCH better results with a dual 31 band DJ equalizer

what is IASCA and why in gods name do you need a DUAL channel 31 band EQ?
Unless you have a 10,000EUR stereo system in there, is that really necessary? :P

IASCA = Acronym for "International Auto Sound Challenge Association."
Iasca is to car audio like what NFL is to football. It pro stuff.

A dual 31 band channel equalizer is also known as a 1/3 Octave 2 channel equalizer. I use thes all the time at work to equalize PA systems, primarily when using microphones, especially lavaliers that are omnidirectional
These are simply graphic equalizers with 31 different frequencies, this gives you a lot of control over the sound. However for car applications, it is usually more efficient to use a parametric eq, as there is not as much of a need for the capabilities of a graphic. A graphic is cheaper and easier to understand, however.
I have not seen any software, besides high end audio software (primarily used in studio applications) that will actually perform the equalization (not to say that is doesn't exist, I just haven't come across it). One thought I had was to find a computer controllable eq (like Ashly's Protea or the BSS Soundweb system), converting it for use in a 12 volt environment, and using my in car computer to run the software for any tweaks that need to be made. I would also love to find an amp that I can control via computer for setting gains, switching channels on and off, and maybe even setting turn-on/off delays.

What's wrong with using software to do equalization? After layer 3, mpeg data is already in the frequency domain isn't it?
Not sure if I've ever seen any software package that would do time delay. Would be nice if there was such a solution - using a multichannel sound card.

If there was a software mp3player that allows directX plug-ins to be used, i`m sure theres a piece of audio software (soundforge?) which has an eq like you mentioned.

a dual 31 band software EQ..... phew... I hate to think of the CPU usage on that little baby!
I doubt such software exists, as CarComp has suggested you would be better looking at a hardware solution - since I doubt such software exists 'off the shelf' and secondly, it would put a large drain on the CPU....
soundforge may do the task, but remember the solution would need to be running in the background - basically a windows 'service'.... receiving all sound card input, processing it and then passing on the result to the sound card to be processed... soundforge is basically an audio editor... not a real-time software DSP....

Hmm, i thought so too, so i had a little go with soundforge a minute ago, and was quite surprised. It only had a 20 band EQ which controlled both channels, but the CPU usage for real time playback was only 5% (even with quality set to high)! (see attached pic) My system is only a athlon 850, aswell.
Say it took twice the cpu to process each channel independantly, it the usage would be 10%, but i`m not sure what the difference between 20 bands and 31 bands would be tho. I`m definately sure it would be doable with software (as long as youv`e got a pretty juicy CPU), just finding it won`t be easy.

I was only using soundforge as an example. Pretty much all of it processing features (including EQ) are also usable as directX plugins. If there was a directX plugin which was a 31band eq, i`m sure there must be another bit of software that allows directX plugins to be used in realtime, then your in business.

nice find......!!!
geez I would really like a DirectX normalisation audio plugin then... help normalise audio on both my mp3s and my DivX videos...
and thanks for that MikeHunt79 - I really thought it would be more taxing on a CPU...?
