There are utilities to change that boot screen to something else.
However, you're altering cvore files for Windoze and may render your OS unusable. Personally, I don't mess with them, but others have changed their boot screens with success.
Good luck.

If you are trying to do what I think you are trying to do, then it's pretty easy in windows xp.

1. in windows press the window key or click "start" to bring up the start menu.

2. Next select "run" from the start menu. which will open a command line window.

3. Type "msconfig" on the command line and press ok.

4. The system configuration utility will open, and you will need to click the tab that says BOOT.INI.

5. Now under "boot options" check the box that says "/NOGUIBOOT" then press apply and ok.

This is the safe way turn off that tacky windows boot-up screen.

Slightly.

But you'll still get a black screen until it finishes it's boot.

I just replaced mine with my car logo in a startup screen.

Tune up utilities 2008, stardock, etc are some of the utilities that change it with minimal fuss for the "less adept" users..............
