Two Terrific Firefox Add-ons For In-Car Internet

I have recently stumbled upon two great Firefox plugins particularly helpful for in-car Internet use and thought I would share them since a search of the site didn't reveal any previous discussion of them.

Speed Dial

This is a neat little plugin that greatly simplifies getting to often used websites. Essentially, it displays Firefox as a visual table of the websites that the user defines. The user can then go to the website by simply pressing the page that he wants to go to. The plugin can be configured to be the homepage, so that anytime the browser is opened the table of websites appears. Although it's great for the desktop, it's especially helpful in the car where searching around for and executing links can be difficult. Check it out at:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810

Foxmarks

This is a neat little plugin that automatically synchronizes Firefox bookmarks between multiple computers. I was looking for a way to easily get my often changing desktop bookmarks to my carputer. Well, this is it. You can check it out at: http://www.foxmarks.com/

Okay, while we're at it here's one that lets you easily increase and decrease displayed text size on the run. It puts + and - icons in the Firefox status bar. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2540 . It's great for those web pages that you can't quite read on a small screen. The icons used to enlarge and reduce are a little small, but it's better than trying to increase text size using the menu. I used another addon as shown at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1759 to put the + icon in one corner of the status bar and the - icon in the other so they would be easier to get to.

The Grab and Drag referral.

Unfortunately, trafficland has once again messed with the cameras so they no longer show in your plugin. I figured I would just surrender and actually use their website, but there was way too much moving around in the screen to make it useful in a car environment. Grab and Drag makes it usable.

Trafficland sorted again. Next version.

Will have to have a look at tightening this up a bit.

Oops, you're right. Thanks, LS. (Note to self: Do not drink beer and post at the same time.)

This post got me interested in other addons, just got this one. Works with 3.0 also. It's all in one gestures. Only tried the back and forward navigation but it's programmable as well.

all in one gestures
