Need Help! First install- trying to load windows

Hey guys. I finally got the pc up and running and now i want to load windows xp on it for the first time. the computer boots up and does its search for a boot up. I have teh windows cd in the rom drive but it all it says after spinning for a few seconds is "No Bootable Device" do i have to set something up first to tell the pc to boot from that?

You need to change your bios settings to put the CD rom drive as the first boot device. Depending it may ask you to press a key to boot from CD.

Never mind i see the option.. i made it so that the bootable is cd... trying now

This isnt making sense.. so after a few times it restarts itself it does boot from the cd. It goes to the blue screen and says windows setup. onthe bottom it goes through loading some things from the cd. then it will restart itself. then after a few more tries it actually gets to the screen where i have to press continue to continue set up. and then i press f6 to install windows xp. Then it restarts and does the cycle all over again???

Well, that's definitely not normal. Your windows disk is bad maybe.

Yes.
That Dell Windoze install CD is for Dells only and won't work with anything else.
I'm assuming you're using the one with the blue label with the DELL logo on it...

I don't think Dell even includes a windows disk anymore.

OEM (like Dell, HP, etc.) disks are protected and set up to ONLY install on the system they were originally shipped with.
Won't install on anything else, sadly for consumers.

go to out and purchase a brand new windows xp pro or home disk, then try reinstalling the disk. Also you DO NOT have to press F6 unless you are installing a hard drive that needs SATA drivers. If your hard drive is ATA, just put the disk in, let it notice the disk, press any key to install let it install!

Good Luck!
