machine keeps resetting? Please Help

hey everyone..

I am still bench testing to get all the bugs out and software installed before it goes in the truck.

My first problem leads to the second

I have a ethernet cable going to the machine but cant get it to connect to the internet.

So i think i might have missed a step with the windows install, maybe didn't install a drive or something. (if anyone has ideas that would be MUCHLY appreciated)

Second thing is I tried putting in the windows install disk and the machine just reboots when the splash screen comes up. Infact, it is doing that when I put most cd in the machine... and it will just keep resetting or ask for safe mode until i take the cd out of the drive..

Thoughts!!?? i wanted to get this done on my day off, lol, wishful thinking i guess

Trial and error on the net connection. Go into device manager and make sure your nic card is on the device list. If not, add it, if so, go into networks properties for the nic and make sure you have dhcp set (assuming you are using dhcp) or a static ip if not using dhcp. Ping 127.0.0.1 to make sure windows can communicate with your nic.
If all that is fine, then swap cables (rare but I have seen bad cables). If you're connected to a router, see what the lan address and gateway addresses are. When you boot your pc up, do an ip config and you can see if you're getting a correct address (eg is lan is 192.168.0.x then you should be getting an address of 192.168.0.n). See if you can ping the lan side of your router. Stuff like that...trial and error.

As far as reboots, go into your bios and make sure your first boot device is your harddrive.
