Usb 2.0

I have an VIA EPIA SP motherboard. I have one USB 2.0 device, my 802.11G wifi device. It worked on my initial installation of WinXP SP2, however after a reformat/reinstall of WinXP SP3, upon installation of the device, i get a "this device could be running faster" message and the device never detects. The thing is i have USB 2.0 ports. i plugged it into the same port i used before, i even tried every other port on the board. i also installed USBInfo to see if i had any 2.0 ports and i don't.

Do i have to use a different driver to get USB 2.0?

if you're absolutely sure you had USB 2.0 before your reinstall, do the following:
Go through the BIOS and make sure all USB is turned on and, if configurable, set to 2.0.
Some of your ports might be USB and others USB 2.0. The manual may provide some insight here.
Find the latest Via USB or 4in1 drivers for your board. Most likely through via.com.tw, or viaarena.com. Looks like the Via Epia SP series drivers are at http://via.com.tw/en/products/mainbo...erboard_id=261

thanks, i actually installed them, but they did not detect as new devices. is there a way to Update Drivers and select a new driver? if so, what do are they called? Are they Microsoft or Via drivers? are they the Enhanced PCI to USB drivers?

uninstall the drivers in cpl / system / hardware... there are lots of them..

just uninstall them, reboot, go to bios, make sure escd is on for usb,

then load windows. let them auto detect.

I'm also guessing it's a driver issue. I'd try the device manufacturer, see if they have a more recent driver that you can download.
