Exclamation Unifying Driver Deployment - Central Solution to Avoid Multiple CDs

Hey all I was faced the fact that by now I have like 50 CDs with different drivers for different hardware for CarPC needs alone. In case of car pc I dont have CD in the car and if I reinstall windows i have to look for all CDs again and again. I Think thats not really convinient.

So I'm thinking that maybe we should put up a website that will have all CarPC drivers loaded by users for their own equipment, if driver for the device w. same vesion alredy exist we dont need to load it again.

Next there should be ability do users to configure their system hardware so in case they need all drivers in one package they just go on the site select the system they need drivers for and load them at the same time (some how)

Ideally the ste generates batch sile that will automatically install all the drivers on the system at once.

I think that would be nice option for all of us. But at the same time it will take quite a time to develop

What do you ppl think?

Would become out of date too quickly, or would take a lot of work to keep updated.

It's easier to just create your own disc, and keep it safe.

You can use nLite to add drivers to a windows XP (vLite for Vista/win7) install CD so you don't have to hunt down separate discs. Then you can just load up windows with that CD, and not even worry about installing drivers.

I've used this method for quite a while now, makes it very easy. And when new drivers come out, I just use nLite to create a new ISO from the previous, and viola.

I dont care about drivers outdates as long as I have them.

Splitstreaming drivers will keep me with to much extra data installed. If you take a look at Win Embeded POS2 it comes with absolutly no drivers preloaded for a reason... == abou 200% increase in performance compared to the same Windows Embeded with Preloaded minimum driver pack ;-)

I want only drivers I need, I dont want system to crash due to 2 USB drivers for host controllers

What? Even with slipstreaming drivers, my nLited install is only 130mb and performs the same as if I loaded the OS first then drivers... where are you getting your info?

EDIT: and you don't have to slipstream driver packs, I only slipstream the drivers I need. It sounds like either you don't understand what I'm saying, or I don't understand what you're saying. Either way our lions are crossed.

info from trial and errros.
when u r using nLine what source are u using? Well dumm question as nLite only accepts distributable source =)

Get trial of XP POS and do no driver install (only include drivers you need == you MB disk, video, mouse, PS2 keyboard, audio, USB host, CPU Driver) isntalle it in raw format and see the difference for yourself ;-)

I'm actually using a server 2003 enterprise CD for my nLite install. The kernel is so much faster once all the server/network services are stripped out.

I'll check out XP POS and take a look-see, sounds interesting.
