I can instant message (IM) with my car
I got some custom code working well enough for me to have an IM session with my car (it has a google talk account), so I thought I'd show it off. It understands a specific set of commands, as well as more general natural language-style stuff. Here's an example (screenshot of an Adium chat client on Mac OS, of me talking to the car):
More later as I get the code together for someone else to try, but there you go. Fun times.

See if you can add a command to lock the doors and shut down the engine. Could be handy if it ever gets stolen.

You just made my life. I didn't even think about this. I just put 3G in my car and have a php web interface to control it. That's great for connecting to my car from a real computer with internet. The issue is, my cell phone doesn't have internet. It does have AIM though! What phone doesn't? This is amazing. Thanks for popping this idea into my head.

Yeah I gotta cross the bridge and get the ignition and stuff wired into this thing, then there will be lots of cooler options. I have code that talks to a digital IO card, so just need to do some physical wiring one of these weeks and then I can make my car stop when I have a bug!

would be kind of cool to make the location response a google maps link by changing the query string... http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=3...,0.051713&z=15.... change the lat and long and have a link to show where it is. just for kicks. looks awesome though.

That's cool, but am I the only one bothered by the fact that he's having an IM convo with his car while driving 46 MPH? LOL!

haha.. but it would be a pretty boring convo just sitting in the parking lot! I want to ask it how it feels today.

Friggin Awesome
As others have said, but imagine with text to speech he can actually have a IM convo with his ride, while going 46mph, or 64mph for that matter. How did you get it to pull data from your OBD2?
