could be hardware not software on the video problem. If your video card is old it might not be able to handle 32 bit color. Personaly I don't really see much of a difference between 32 or 16 bit color. Just keep it at 16.

Also for the video problem allocate more memory in the bios for it as well. These mobo use shared mem for video.

I had a similar problem with a parralell NIC(urgh) i used to use, The only way i could get it to work again was to unplug it and plug it back in, I figured it was a 98 problem. I was putting it down to whatever suspend does, i was going to look into it but i ended up just disabling suspend.

sorry but it aint really much help.

mastero, playing mpeg is all about codec, that is compression/decompression. if you have one of those inbuilt gpu (graphics proccessor unit) on the mobo they are not powerful enough specially if they are on a shared memory with other peripherals, bottleneck will occur.

while playing typical 60fps mpeg on an ntsc(pal is even higher) this is what really happens:

a single frame or picture of a typical 60fps(30fps interlaced) movie is roughly a 1.5mb uncompressed file. in order for it to fit on a cd or dvd it has to be compressed. this is the reason why the whole movie can fit on cd.

when you decided to play the movie, the player(software) then with or without the help of an mpeg hardware has to decompressed that file, show it on your screen as a single frame, then compressed it again and repeat the whole proccess for the next frame. but there are 30 frames of 1.5mb file that has to be decompressed and compressed in a matter of a second, so now you could imagine the pressure the player is having from trying to come up with your expectation from playing 800 x 600 (almost pal) in 32bit(16.4 million colors) mode while in fact your hardware can only handle 640 x 480 (ntsc) in 16bit(thousand of collors) mode.

if you want to achive good pic under 16bit mode then the technique has to be from the source itself. meaning copy your original dvd in a vcd/svcd format and play around with the compression setup until you are satisfied with the result. if you don't want the hassle then better buy separate card with a good gpu (usually those with fan) but this would not be car efficient for me tho.
