I have bought it but not tried nor install it;at least it is cheaper then their $300 car microphone!

only works if you have their special sound card/chip. Theres an audio test on the page to see if you can use it on your system.

andrea does make microphones for AutoPC. So I assume they have other choices too.

yup, but it's custom setup. I've email them about the car setup mics and they said that it was custom for each customer. Figure its gonna be pretty expensive.

You know, Dragon is a very slick piece of software, but only if you are willing to give your system your undivided attention for a little while. I got myself quite an image with my friends when they came over while I was training SASAMI. They started freaking out and trying to convince me to go out to a club or something, because apparently I had gone off the deep end, and was reading the ALECCS technical manual aloud to the machine.

I had quite a time convincing my (non-computer savvy) friends that I had to read text to the computer so that it would recognize my speech patterns. At first they scoffed at that, but when I started straightening my room while issuing commands to SASAMI to show me the weather and play some music, they quickly changed their tune. Didn't stop them from giving me hell in public though.

In any case, like I said, Dragon is sweet, but it takes too long to train (IMO), and it's a little too picky about the ambient noise in relation to the levels at which it was trained to begin with. Yes, an expensive mic could fix that, but as far as I'm concerned, that's not really worth it. Repeating the command just one time negates any real value to voice control, I think. I will use voice command for times when the car is silent (disable/enable security, diagnose engine computer problems etc).

So in the end, I will save my mic for the integrated cellphone (hopefully), and rely on the touchscreen to do all of the integral control.

Not necessarily true, they do have the USBD-2A adaptor that allows the hook up of the array to any USB port; the bundle of the Sunbeam array mic and the USB adaptor is still only around $90.

My solution

I got around the ambient background noise problem by using a throat mic (yes you yave to wear it, but it's small) that plugs in... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse
It cost $30 which is a lot cheaper than a good noise canceling mic. Needed a $4 adapter from mini to standard plug and a $3 airplane adapter to seperate mic and earbud, but it works great.

I got my noise canceling mic for $20. And that's expensive because there are some for around $10.
