Windows is scanning for plug and play devices on the serial port, so that's why your amps flickers on/off rapidly. I solved this by modifying my windows registry so windows would no longer search for any devices on the specified com port. Older window products it was easy to accomplish the same thing inside the boot.ini file, but windows XP no longer accepts the simple method. Time to google the answer.

I'm only getting 6v from my serial port so I need a way to send 12 when that switches.

I created a circut with the 2222 transistor, but I still only get about 5.9V out of the emitter. Any help?

I had the same problem and designed a simple circuit to make it work from the 6 volts that most DTR pins on com ports seem to put out.
I'm planning on making and selling a serial controlled switch that can be used to switch anything and also want to do a USB version for those that dont have a com port or already have used it.

I'm not sure how much demand there would be for it but it seems a few people would be interested.

On one of my carpc installations I was getting an annoying pop sound as the computer went into hibernation. What I have done was find a way to automatically turn off Amp Ctrl service before hibernation, and then resume after resuming from hibernation. Another words your amp is turned off before hibernation for a quiet exit.

First download this handy Hibernate Trigger program here:

Download and unzip my two programs into your c:\ampctrl_1.0 folder.

Configure Hibernate Trigger like so, and you're all good.

I did this differently....

COM TRIGGERED RELAY----KEY TRIGGERED RELAY --12V ENABLED---------AMP

So if key is gone sound is off reguardless of com port. All hardware

As my monitor is fussy and only works properly when windows has fully booted, I used this program with some extra components, to ensure complete isolation, my monitor remains powered by the computer and that the monitor turns off when I take the key out. (the schematic is a bit ghetto, made it in paint lol)

edit: The Capacitor and 200 ohm resistor are used to prevent the bios from triggering the relay or to prevent winows from rapidly tiggering the relay when booting. I did do the registry entries above and they worked for windows, but my bios still triggers the DTR line for 1 second as soon as the power button is pressed. This part of the circuit solves this problem.

parts list:
1x 4n25 0131 opto isolator
1x 1k ohm resistor
1x 200 ohm resistor
2x 1n4148 diodes
1x 1000uf 25v Capacitor
1x SPDT 12v relay

Hi all,

I went to an radio shark here and found the 2N2222 transistor. I bought it and did a test. Everything works like a charm, except the remote wire from pin 4 sometimes changes from 11v to 0v and backing to 11v again turning off and on the amp causing some gaps on musics.

Do you know what can be hapening?
Could it be a Windows XP issue? or a AmpCtrl issue?

is this hapen only during boot up? or can it be hapening frequently during the normal operation of Windows?

Its Ampctrl not working or not installed properley. I have exactly the same thing if I dont run volume_amp control application. If you are using com port 1 try the Volume_Amp Control app here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/down...?do=file&id=33

My RS232 is on com port 5. Do you think is still possible to use volume_amp_control or can I do anything to change to the right port?

I'm thinking to use a 25v x 4.7Fa capacitor in parallel to the transistor emitter to get a kind of 'no-break'. What do you think?

I'm still trying to find an app that will start with windows with the DTR pin on and allow you to select the com port and also stop going in and start up coming out of standby.

I havent managed to get it to start with windows and have DTR on automatically though.
