I know first hand how much it would scuk to have the core of your program lost, but on the other hand, I know that when I program, I wind up doing things and going about methods in way's that shouldn't be done, only to look at it later and realize that I should have done it a different way.

And since you have worked on it recently you remember alot of how it worked. So, it might have been catastrophic, but you'd probably still be okay if you had to start from scratch.

Anyways, let me know if you need any help on coding. I've been in the business for a long time now. (Longer than I'd like.) And I've learned alot about VB. I'm currently in development of a huge Optometrist program storing thousands of patient records, CallerID, Exam information, Reports large database's, MP3, E-Mail, TimeClock, etc, all stored in the same program. VB code is in excess of 75,000 lines of code, and over 75 forms. It's about 25% complete. So, I have the experience. I don't want to sound snoody or anything.

Are you going to be releasing your source code? I switched from Media Engine to my own version because Media Engine became closed source. That was enough to move me away.

Anyways, much anticipations on the release of Alexis. I'm defanetly interested in it, and relived to find that the core wasn't lost.

well shiat

I remember just a few weeks ago, crying like a baby when I had the great idea of reformatting and installing my raid back. I backed up all my junk, and my entire Docs folder, and so on. Well there is this nice feature with XP pro, and its fuc****ng called ENCRYPTION!!! Well to make a long story short I was hacking my old encryption key for weeks, I gave up and just dumped all my stuff in the trash. Years of photos, ones I never wanted to lose, and that’s my fault for not, let say it together now, backing up my data.
Now I am the proud owner of a Sony 4x dvd all in one burner. IT actually quite nice. Been doing lots of movie ripps lately, and many runs to blockbuster. Anywho good times.

I've had this happen to me last year. Lost 245 pages of a book I had written. I was freaking heartbroken and I think i was depressed for a month... Haven't written anything since.

Geez! All these sob stories makes me remember when I had MY big catastrophe. And this one was TRULY horrible!
I had like 6 years worth and 70 gigs of porn and then my hard drive went down and I was crying like for 6 months. It was worse than getting dumped by every girlfriend I ever had..........................................ok, I'm kidding but I had you going there didn't I.

Yeah, that's something else that has been lost. I have been working on a series of books; the first, a dark superhero-type thing, and the others a triology that tied in the first one and introduced a radical new idea on where humankind came from in the first place. In short: an awesome sci-fi series designed to be a screenplay eventually. I lost an assload when those went away.

*sigh*

I lost half of a 44 minute movie that I was making... thats about.... 50 hours of editing, 10 hours of shooting DV film, and my nevre. Luckily I finished the project before my HD went down and I had the VOB files for DVD burning. But now I cannot make any changes to it... its a bit annoying, but at least I have a final copy.

Also lost: 3 websites, photos, and all my previous high school homework. Oh well, dad bought me a 160 gb and I just picked up a 180 gb HD for $90 (Rebadged IBM).

LOL.... I wanted to see how long it would take to download 80GB of porn so I did a test. Last night i downloaded 6 gb... so it would take about 14 days.... not a big lost for whoever. Stuff we create (program, write, or edit) matters the most.

Sorry to revive an otherwise dead thread, BUT...

I'm happy to say that a format on that dead drive was just what the doctor ordered! After formatting, OnTrack's software was able to see the files with their correct headers once more!!! This means that the re-coding I was going to be forced to do on the ALEXIS core no longer needs to be done. I have ALL of the latest core developments in place now, and I am that much closer to a test release.

Also, I have my NaturalVoices CDs once again, which means I can get the verbal feedback on track once more. I would take a stab and say that a release is coming in about a week or so!
