Pick your favourite vis with a random setting in WMP then close it and open your program.

Best I can do!

Kovan,

You can't do it with the SDK. Only with skins. Crap I know, but that's just the way it is.

That won't work either. You'd have to do that and then kill your app and restart as well.

Theres gots to be a way to do it! Windows media center edition does it and I know for a fact that they are using activeX control to do the visualizations and I'm pretty sure that they are just using the SDK and using nothing that mere mortals wouldn't be able to do.

Figured it out...

Its not a very easy or clean solution, but its probably the best available.

Create a skin, have it process all the visualizations stuff through the effects object have the skin call an ActiveX control that you created and registered yourself. Create the ActiveX control that will respond to the events and do stuff in your program.

Windows Media Center edition came with a skin file that makes it pretty apparent that it is used just as a wrapper for activeX communication with the main application. You know if this is how Microsoft had to do it just to get it to work with thier own stuff, it's probably the best available although it is a very hacked solution.

I haven't actually done this yet cause its real hard, but I will within the next month or so. I may up the source if it doesnt end up being too integrated with the commercial app that I going to be using this for.

Come on down to the maryland meet http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/mp3car-gatherings/21414-maryland-washington-dc-va-people.html neighbor, I'll be there if it ever happens.
