Drivers & Codecs

heya..

About to start setting up the software on my beloved carputter. Took me entire weekend to build the damn box for it, i will post the pics later Just checked out the via site for latest drivers... and to my amazement i found a 68mb video driver for the epia mII! Now.... i have no idea what they managed to pack into that file to make it 68mb but nonetheless, that made me question boot time performance of my pc-in-work.

Just wondering what drivers you guys are using to run your software. And other part, the codecs! They've been giving me hell on my desktop even, trying everything from nimo to k-lite codec pack and separate drivers by themselves. I think i finally found some weird combination of all of those that lets me play everything i need.. But out of curiosity which packages/combinations do you recommend to install, to eliminate the garbage files and extra codecs that are useless and will only slow down the computer. I need the basic package for DivX, XViD, mpgX, mp3 (duh :P).

Right, the ONLY codecs you need. Uninstall the others, or preferably, start with a clean OS, as your current one will be ****ed with all the other crap you've installed.

Video: FFDShow or 3ivX
Audio: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net

Use Gspot to find which codecs are needed for your files and Dxman to see what's actually on your pc.

Ah nice, ffdshow seems to cover all my needs

What about via video drivers, any tweaked ones available out there? I'm scared to install this 68mb beast on my computer lol :P
